Activities

'It carries out activities or services itself'

'the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage'

Wigtownshire Wellbeing and Cancer (WWAC) is a volunteer-led group which was set by a group of local people who had experienced a cancer journey. People affected by cancer across Wigtownshire are forced to make many journeys to and from Dumfries, Edinburgh and Glasgow to access treatment. Our work is focused around supporting the wellbeing of people affected by cancer and their families and carers: - reducing isolation - helping alleviate the significant stress (and cost) of a cancer journey - signposting to useful, practical information - supporting self-management before, during and after cancer treatment. WWAC secured funding to recruit a part time Volunteer Co-ordinator and an Administrator. This has allowed us to: - Develop our communications and marketing - Recruit more volunteers - Improve our support for volunteers - Improve our governance and infrastructure - Develop a vision, mission and plan - Apply for additional funds - Build partnerships in the community

Objectives: 1 The organisation’s purposes are: The relief of those in need in the Wigtownshire area and in furtherance of this: Wigtownshire Wellbeing and Cancer is the next step in moving forward with life after a personal journey through cancer. Its aim is to implement a socially sensitive self-help support service to support confidence building, resilience and courage, to help overcome the many challenges that cancer can bring.
