VISION
Edinburgh Medics’ Reveal was founded to give medical and nursing students at the University of Edinburgh the opportunity to engage in meaningful fundraising efforts that support young people living with cancer across Scotland. We also aim to offer a fun and sociable escape from the demands of academic life.
MISSION
-
e We aim to advance the health and wellbeing of young people with cancer in the UK by raising money and distributing these funds to Teenage Cancer Trust
-
e Alongside this, each year we strive to provide recreational activities for students at the University of Edinburgh through organising and encouraging participation in dance classes, social events, fundraising activities and an annual variety dance show.
-
e We hope through our efforts, Edinburgh Medics’ Reveal provides students with a social and creative outlet to enrich their time at university.

In 2024/25, we’ve focused on fostering an inclusive and supportive community by hosting social events with Conscious Edinburgh (a student mental health charity) and providing a free, delicious lunch for all cast members on the day of the show thanks to Pizza Geeks!
The fundraising team worked tirelessly this year to offer diverse fundraising opportunities to our cast and expanded external sponsorships, providing free underwear, water bottles, and discounts to cast members to enhance our show’s accessibility.
GOVERNANCE
In our first year as an SCIO, the trustees worked towards ensuring the charity’s sustainability. This includes streamlining how we handle complaints, improving data protection practices and creating procedures to help members taking on new roles hit the ground running.
The trustees have also developed new governance policies, providing support to coordinators and other committee members on key decision making and reviewing high-value contracts to ensure they deliver value for money and are in line with our charitable purpose.

CANCER TRUST
Our support helps ensure specialised Teenage Cancer Trust nurses, support teams, and hospital units are there for young patients, throughout their cancer treatment and beyond. Teenage Cancer Trust’s income relies heavily upon donations and public fundraising. Our 2025 total of £46,000 accounts for 6.2% of their annual spending- an immense achievement for a student-run organisation.

STRUCTURE,
Reveal is a two tier charity registered in Scotland. For the 2024/25 session this included 3 trustees on the board (maxiumum 5) and 27 members, who each take on an area of responsibility on the committee. Members are divided into departments, each reporting to a head of department, who in turn report to three coordinators who oversee the work of the committee as a whole. Trustees meet with coordinators monthly to receive updates on the work of the committee and provide advice or decision making as required.
We have developed new policies addressing our approach to data protection and complaint handling. Financial oversight is maintained by the charity Treasurer, assisted by the member appointed as Head of Finance.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF EDINBURGH MEDICS’ REVEAL SCIO
I report on the financial statements of the Edinburgh Medics’ Reveal for the period ended 31 May 2025, which are set out on pages 5 and 6 and the related notes on pages 7 to 9.
Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner
The charity’s Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 (“the 2005 Act”) and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended) (“the 2006 Regulations”). The charity’s Trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section (44)(1)(c) of the 2005 Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent Examiner’s Statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
-
which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements:
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Regulations
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Regulations
have not been met, or
- to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
