Structure, Governance and Management
Constitution
The Charity is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (a SCIO). It was registered in its current legal form on 1 July 2024. It has a single tier structure and as such the trustees are the members of the charity.
Appointment of trustees
The management committee are the charity’s trustees. Membership of the management committee is open to all persons who express an interest in furthering the object of the SCIO. To allow for some continuity of the committee it is also open to interested members of the community. Trustees are elected at the annual general meeting which is held in June. There must be a minimum of three and a maximum of twelve trustees.
Objectives and Activities
Charitable purposes
This SCIO is formed as a West Kilbride community-driven initiative to develop a safe and inclusive playground for local residents. The playground will provide a much-needed recreational space for children and families, fostering community engagement and promoting physical and mental well-being. The initiative will be managed by Scottish Charitable Organisation (SCIO) formed for this purpose (SCIO), funded through grants, donations, and community fundraising efforts.
Activities
The chairity has conducted a survey of residents, and had over 200 reponses representing nearly 600 people. The chairity held an event attended by over 200 people to celebrate the space and the work done to date. This was supported with funding from the participatory budget fund.
Achievements and Performance
£ 1,000 awarded by the participatory budget fund for the park party. Quotes and funding sought for the acquisition of the land and the funding of the playground.
Financial review
Our main source of funding is grants and donations. During our first year we have concentrated on securing funding in order for us to complete a land survey and insure the site.
With the above in place we successfully held a party in the park which allowed the community to come together
and vote for their preferred equipment.
We have not held any fundraisers during the year but actively sought donations from local sources. We hope to secure funding in the near future which will allow us to progress with relevant applications and begin the purchase of play equipment.
Plans for future period
Fundraising: Secure necessary funding through grants, donations, and community events. 100,000 will be sought from the though the North Ayrshire CIF process. Various funders have neen approched for funding, including the Land Fund for the procurement of the land.
Site acquisition : Procure the demarcated land from the housing revenue account and the council through a community asset transfer.
Design and planning : Develop a playground design that is inclusive, allows active play for children from 1 year to 15 years, and meets safety standards.
Construction: Oversee the construction of the playground, ensuring quality and adherence to budget. Maintenance: Establish a long-term maintenance plan to ensure the playground remains safe and enjoyable for
ll Management: Establish a long-term plan to manage the playground maintenance, insurance, SCIO responsibilities and finances.
