– Hawick Callants Club Arts Education Charity SC053332

Report of Creation and Activities

Creation

A charity was to be created for the advancement of education in the Hawick area through the provision of piano tuition initially and possibly other instruments in the future. This would provide the advancement of arts, heritage and culture in the Hawick area by the provision of a pool of pianists to cover our local festival functions and activities.

A Constitution was created for the Charity and sent to OSCR along with the details of the initial Trustees and the application form.

Our application was accepted and we were registered from the 7[th] May 2024. Our charity number is SC053332.

Meetings during year

Three Business meetings have been held during the year, prior to the AGM on the 29[th] of July 2025.

Activities

We now have three piano teachers on board with rates for lessons agreed. Six pupils have already been allocated to teachers.

There are;

Introductions have already been made and the teachers and pupils are now in direct contact. Invoices for the lessons will be forwarded to us on a monthly basis.

Of the six pupils, four already have access to a suitable piano. The other two have access to a keyboard, but not with weighted keys. This is fine only for the very early stages of lessons, so we have said to the teachers that when they are ready (and the teachers are happy) we will provide a piano on loan from the charity.

All the teachers have Disclosure Scotland cover though all are checking and renewing if this is required.

We are still open to new teachers and have a couple of other potential names for the future

Also, Richard may have space available soon for another pupil.

We will see how the first lessons go before creating publicity for the charity.

Funding

We have been successful with applications for funding from local government sources, donations from local clubs and organisation, and donations from members of the Callants club.

Accounts

These have been maintained by the Treasurer through the year and audited accounts have been provided for the AGM. They show a healthy balance in the bank account from the various funding sources and provided the basis to commence the provision of piano lessons to the initial group of pupils and examine further development of the scheme.
