It was registered on 13 December 2023 and operates under the constitution approved by OSCR at the date of registration. The organisation was previously an unincorporated association, and the assets of the association were transferred to the SCIO on 31 March 2024. ## **Appointment of Trustees** The charity Trustees constitute the Board of Trustees, which normally meets monthly. Membership of the Board is open to all voting members of the Club. Trustees are elected at the Annual General Meeting. The minimum number of Trustees is four, and the maximum is eleven. At each AGM, all the Charity Trustees retire, and shall be eligible for re-election. 2 CUMBERNAULD SAILING CLUB Scottish Charity No – SC053009 ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2024 The following Trustees were appointed on 13.12.23, as initial Trustees, and were all reappointed at the Annual General Meeting of 9.6.24. In addition, the following Trustees were appointed at the Annual General Meeting of 9.6.24. There were no Trustee retirals during the year 2024. ## **Charitable Purposes and Objectives** The aims and objectives of the organisation are: - a. To enable opportunities and advance public participation in Watersports, defined as non-powered water activities such as dinghy sailing, windsurfing, rowing, paddle boarding, canoeing etc - b. To develop young leaders - c. To develop volunteers - d. To promote the club within the local community and Watersports in Scotland - e. To protect the local natural resource of Fannyside Loch 3 CUMBERNAULD SAILING CLUB Scottish Charity No – SC053009 ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2024 ## **Activities** Throughout the year, the charity maintains access to the Clubhouse, boatyard and loch for members. During the boating season the charity runs dinghy racing on a regular basis, with formal racing once a month, to encourage the development of sailing skills by members. The charity is planning regular events in 2025 for canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding, and during 2024 provided a new storage facility for kayaks. The charity provides a range of dinghies and windsurfing equipment free of charge to members wishing to take up the sport, and provides support to members to learn about the sport and develop their skills. The charity has also entered into an agreement with Strathsail (Strathclyde University Sailing Club) to base a number of Strathsail’s boats in the club boatyard and to use the club facilities to train students in sailing and to develop the sailing team skills by practice session throughout the winter months. The club provides the use of its safety boat for these training sessions. First aid training has been arranged for members, and training in the use of the safety boat has been and will continue to be provided. Social /open days are held to encourage greater participation in all aspects of Watersports. ## **Achievements and Performance** Membership numbers have stabilised since the pandemic, and the club has improved its kayak storage facilities and provided more moorings for larger boats. There has been an increase in the number of club boats and members’ boats, and some reorganisation of the boatyard has been carried out to enable the Strathsail boats to be accommodated. Perimeter fencing damaged in storms in January 2024 has been replaced following a successful insurance claim, and the security of the boatyard has been maintained. There has been an increase in the level of participation in formal and informal racing throughout the year, as members are encouraged to develop their skills with more experienced members on hand. The car park that was developed adjacent to the boatyard a number of years ago has proved invaluable in enabling the increased use of the loch, especially for the Strathsail sessions and the regular club events, and there are plans to develop this. 4 CUMBERNAULD SAILING CLUB Scottish Charity No – SC053009 ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2024 ## **Plans for the future** The club is planning an expanded events programme for 2025 to encourage greater participation in club events by kayak, windsurf and paddleboard. Funding has been raised to enable development of the car park, and funding is being pursued to enable improvements to the slipways to facilitate their use by all members, but particularly older members. Following the provision of a container for kayak storage, the windsurfing storage container will be reorganised in 2025 to enable rigged equipment to be stored for the use of members. The club intends to develop its links with Strathsail and hopes to be able to facilitate informal sailing training for club members with qualified instructors from Strathsail, aa part of club activities. The club has developed a restricted boat fund to develop its fleet of club boats, and will continue to review the club fleet to ensure that it is meeting the objectives of encouraging members to develop sailing skills, by providing a range of single handed and crewed boats. Discussions with local schools to develop opportunities for watersports at the club were started during 2024, although did not conclude during the year, and discussions are ongoing with North Lanarkshire Sports Development Dept over the use of the loch for watersports for schoolchildren, based at Palacerigg Country Park. The club is also intending to pursue a feasibility study for the installation of solar panels on the three containers in the boatyard with a view to contributing to the development of green energy. 5 CUMBERNAULD SAILING CLUB Scottish Charity No – SC053009 ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2024 ## **Financial Review** Traditionally, the club was reliant on member subscriptions for its income. In the first year of incorporation as a charity, the Club secured its first fund raise of £1,000 in 2024, to enable the development of the car park. Other extraordinary receipts came by way of a £400 donation by the family of a member who passed away. For the year 2023, total receipts were £10,571.99, with total payments of £6,637.00 in 2023, resulting in a surplus for the year of £345.10 excluding the Training and Boat Funds. For the year 2024, total receipts were £11,492.68, offset by total payments of £10,357.11 in 2024, resulting in a surplus for the year of £1,135.57. 2024 included a one-off payment around legal fees £1,388.00 relating to the transfer of assets from the unincorporated club to the charity. Despite this, the club had a surplus of £1,135.57. As mentioned above we had an insurance claim inflating the figures both the incomes and receipts. The club also benefited from its charitable status securing exemption going forward for water rates. The club operates a single bank account. Within this we maintain three separate accounts. Training budget, as we run down a training budget from lottery funding. For 2024 this budget remained unchanged at £1,134.07 A boat fund established in 2023 to help improve the fleet increased in 2024 by £151.5 to close at £2,607.32. The bank account opened up 01/01/2024 at £ 12,429.84 and closed 31/12/2024 at £13565.41. Therefore the running club balance increased by £984.07 for the calendar year. 6 CUMBERNAULD SAILING CLUB Scottish Charity No – SC053009 ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2024 ## **Membership** Depicted below in charts are details of the membership numbers and subscription types over the previous years. 2024 saw a minor drop in membership numbers on previous years, with the increase in membership and other revenue streams increasing the receipts slightly. Subscription fees were increased for the first time in ten years for the 2024 season, following an in-depth review of our facilities in comparison to ‘comparable’ clubs as follows-: - Individual memberships from £80 to £90 per annum - Family membership from £90 to £120 - 2024 introduced a new mooring fee facility from £30 on an allotment basis which was fully subscribed for the season - 2024 also saw the introduction of a charge of £30 for members with a second craft stored at the club (the first craft is stored free as part of all membership categories) - Clearer and fairer student & junior membership offering £60 This resulted in subscription income being maintained, and at £6,180 for the year.
