REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDING 30th JUNE 2024

## Structure, Governance and Management

Governing Document

Watten Helps Out (WHO) is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), registered as a charity by OSCR on the 16th of October 2023, and is overseen by a Board of Trustees that is governed by a constitution.

## Organisational Structure

Our Board of Trustees comprises nine trustees who meet once a quarter. During these meetings, trustees discuss the success of community activities and events, fundraising, grant applications, organising future events and the incoming expenditure, outgoing expenditure, restricted and unrestricted funds for the past quarter.

We are supported, on an advisory basis, by a Community Development Officer.

## Recruitment and Appointment of Trustees

We seek out Trustees who can bring a broad range of skills, expertise and life experience to our board. Office bearers are proposed and seconded at the AGM.

## Charitable Purposes

Our charitable purposes are outlined in our constitution as:

- The provision of recreational activities or facilities for the citizens of the community.

- Advancement of arts, heritage and culture within the community.

- Advancement of environmental protection in the community.

## Objectives and Activities

Watten Helps Out seeks to improve the health and well-being of all individuals within the community. This is especially important at a time where the cost of living is preventing people from enjoying activities and events, and social isolation is on the increase.

We seek opinions and suggestions from members of the public during community events and through social media, to understand what we could do to improve the standards of well-being amongst all age groups . We are responsive to these requests and centre future projects and events around these.

Currently, our core activities include:

- 1) Community meals: held twice a month, hosted in the local hotel in the heart of the village with all community members welcome.

- 2) Community dance sessions: held on a weekly basis.

- 3) Community whist: held once a month within the local school.

- 4) Children’s soft play, bouncy castles and crafts (mostly monthly).

- 5) Creative classes: including floral creations, fused glass, basket weaving, jewellery making, ceramic painting and chocolatier experiences.

- 6) Yogalates: 6 week blocks of classes

- 7) Burn’s Suppers, Ceilidhs and Quizzes

## Achievements and Performance

Throughout the 2023/2024 period we evaluated the success of events and gathered views from the community during these events to inform applications for the 2024/2025 period. With this information, we applied for the following grants to fund the projects listed below.

## ● £12,040 from Watten Wind Farm Trust (awarded 10.09.2024)

This grant provided £8,320 for weekly dance instruction for one full year. Continuation of dance classes was a popular request, and this funding covered costs for 22 hours of community dance of different styles, led by a qualified teacher. Classes are attended by an average of 15 to 30 people.

£1,200 for whist teas for a 12 month period. £2,520 for children’s soft play, bouncy castle and craft sessions

- £2,340 from Watten Wind Farm Trust (awarded 24.09.2024)

Community Christmas Meals

- £9,980 from Watten Wind Farm Trust (awarded 25.10.24)

Community meals were the most well attended of the initial events hosted. Larger numbers of people requested to attend and we were asked to hold these on a more regular basis. The meals were held on a fortnightly basis, rather than monthly as had been the case previously. Holding a lunch and an evening meal each month has made the community meals more accessible for a wider range of people. These meals are now attended by an average of 40-60 community members. For the purpose of inclusivity for all of our community members (ensuring equity for all), meals are delivered to those who cannot attend the venue.

- £18,843.60 from RWE Camster Wind Farm Community Fund (awarded 22.11.2024)

Scottish Dancing £1,280. Jewellery Classes £3,860. Laser Clay Sessions £1,933.60. Glass Classes £2,130. Children’s Activities and Adult Ceramic Workshop £3,520. Burn’s Supper £2,950. Hat Box Floral Classes £2,340. Basket Weaving £830

- £11,762 from Watten Wind Farm Trust (awarded 27.03.25)

Clay Pigeon Shooting £2,400. Yogalates £1,632. Floral Wreath Classes £7,730

● £23,468 from RWE Camster Wind Farm Community Fund (awarded 09.06.25) Boxercise £1,100. Whist Teas £1,200. Soup, Sandwich and Natter £11,880. Christmas Garland £1,380. Upcycling £710. Jewellery Classes £2,920. Ceilidh Trail £650. Abbey Crafts £532. Bangle Making Class £2,464. Candle Making £632

## ● Unrestricted Funds

Our unrestricted funds are made up from small entry fees for jewellery making, floral and glass classes, children’s soft play, quizzes and whist. Ceilidh and Burn’s Supper ticket sales. Raffles. £500 cost of living payment from Foundation Scotland. £158 donation from a member of the public.

Unrestricted funds pay for items such as storage boxes, children’s snacks and drinks, first aid kit replenishment, ice packs for first aid kits, Canva subscription for advertising, insurance, printer ink and paper and decorative items such as tablecloths and balloons for events and meals.

Baking and teas for craft classes are a regular expense as well as paper cups, plates, plastic bags and napkins for whist.

From time to time guest speakers or performers are invited to our events and we thank them with a small token of appreciation, usually vouchers from a local business.

Approved by the trustees and signed on their behalf by:
