Strurture, governance and management
Smailholm Village Hall is governed by a Constitution. The Board of Trustees, which can have
up to 11 members with a quorum of 3 members, is responsible for running the organisation.
Trustees are nominated from members of the organisation and appointed annually at the
AGM. The Board is responsible for the appointment of additional Trustees from time to time
in accordance with the constitution.
Objettives and activities
The organisation's charitable purposes are
To provide and maintain Smailholm Village Hall a5 a community facility for the benefit
of the inhabitants of Smailholm village and surrounding area covered by the following
postcodes.. TD5 7PH, TD5 7PJ. TD5 7PQ TD5 7PF, TD5 7PG. TD5 7PL. TD5 7PN, TD5 7RT,
TDS 7SB. TD5 75D. TD5 7SE, TD3 6LG wtthout distinction of political, religious or other
opinions, for recreation. leisure and educational purposes of all kinds with the object of
improving the conditions of life of the said inhabitants.
To promote citizenship and community development in the area of benefit as described
in point l.
The main activities in relation to these objectives have been-
To ensure the fabric of the building is maintained in good condition
To make changes to the building to improve sustainability
To run events which are open to all members of the community
To hire the hall for a variety of purposes to provide an income stream

Achievements and perforrnance
The hall continued to be the hub for Smailholm residents and the wider community, being
used for a wide variety of events, clubs and classes. It is used almost every day during the
week and regularly at weekends. Regular activitie5 include Art Class. Book Group, Come
along and play evenings, Film Nights, Library Van and Open Afternoons, Pilates, Qigon&
Table Tennis and yoga. We also held a number of publictheatre and music events.
Through the Smailholm Futures project we received a grant for the installation of solar
panels and battery storage to improve our sustainabilty. This is the first phase of moving
the hall to more sustainable energy usage and has been very successful in providing almost
all of the electricity required to run the hall.
Financial review
The Treasurer arranged forthe remaining fund5 amounting to £19.017 to be transferred
from Smailholm Village Hall Committee.
As at 31 March 2026 there was a total of £19,487 in funds.
Of this reserves of £10,000 were held in a fixed term interest paying account.
There had been restricted grants of £17,100 in this reporting period.
We have no employees, so the Board and other members of the community volunteer
regularly to ensure the smooth running of the hall, which would not be possible without
their support.
