The relief of poverty and the relief of those in need by:
-
collecting, buying, distributing and coordinating the distribution of items such as food, household items, toys and vouchers;
-
coordinating the donation of services;
-
providing advice, assistance, training and advocacy and;
-
recruiting and coordinating volunteers to participate in the achievement of the foregoing purposes
all so as to relieve pressure on those with insufficient resources to make reasonable provision for themselves and for their families and so as to help them find ways to make such provision.
Achievements and Performance
WESCG was formed to achieve the purposes outlined above in the communities of (Greater) Corstorphine, Murrayfield and Roseburn identified in the Constitution as West Edinburgh.
This is the first full financial year that WECSG has operated as a registered SCIO and has concentrated on developing the structures and systems of the organisation and on developing the Corstorphine Christmas Support Project (CCSP) activities.
The main service offered again this year was the CCSP. The organising group consists of 8 individuals who take on specific lead roles within the project including organisational planning, school liaison, administration, volunteer management and fund-raising. There are currently vacancies for people to take on the roles of Publicity and obtaining in kind donations.
The project also used 63 volunteers during the preparation and delivery phases of the project providing a total of 1,290 hours.
The CCSP’s main operational period is the two weeks prior to Christmas to provide support packages to local families in need resulting from financial and other issues. These packages contain food, toiletries, household items and gift bags for all children in each family. Most of the families supported are mostly referred by local primary schools although a small number of families were identified by local organisations and a small number of individuals were referred by a local homeless hostel.
4
WECSG works in collaboration with a number of organisations to deliver the CCSP. Particular thanks to Tummies not Trash for their generous support in providing a range of food and other items for the packages. The project supported a total of 120 families over the two weeks. Total numbers supported were 191 adults and 224 children.
The project provided ongoing support on a one off basis or ongoing support to a small number of families in the January to March 25 period.
WECSG is working to extend its services to include strategies to support families to enable them to improve their ongoing situation and as a result, their quality of life.
The Trustees have agreed as an initial strategy to offer relevant workshops.
It has proven difficult to identify people and organisations that are able and willing to deliver the workshops.
The first workshop offered was Benefit Awareness delivered bya local information service. The workshop was helpful for those who attended and it was planned to hold a second workshop elsewhere in the West Edinburgh Area. Unfortunately the provider has been unable to allocate staff resources for the workshop.
Possibilities are currently being discussed with a Local Indian Restaurant regarding holding “budget Cookery session(s)”.
Financial Review
The financial statements are set out in pages 8 and 9
The charity's reserves (non-restricted) available to meet the running costs of the organisation are £1605.00
The restricted funds available for the Corstorphine Christmas Support Project are £4248.74
CCSP received substantial support from the local community including in-kind donations such as food, toiletries and household items to the value of £3,500 all of which was distributed as part of the CCSP.
Reserves Policy
The Trustees’ have agreed that an overall reserve of around £4,000 in the restricted fund is required to cover pre-project bulk buying orders which are required to be placed several weeks before the CCSP project starts and before many of the donations are received. A reserve of a further £500 is required in the unrestricted fund to meet core costs such as insurance and mobile phone rental.
5
Future Plans
-
¢ To operate the CCSP in 2025
-
¢ Tocontinue a collaborative working relationship with larger, similar projects who can offer specialist information and advice to our users
-
¢ To develop a programme of workshops.

Independent Examiner’s Report on the Accounts
Respective responsibilities of trustee and examiner
The charity's Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act “the 2005 Act” and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended) (“the 2006 Regulations”). The charity Trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention
Basis of independent examiner's statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, | do not express an audit opinion on the accounts
Independent examiner’s statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:-
1 Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:-
° To keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and ° To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations have not been met
or
- To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
