Objectives and activities
The charity was incorporated on 27 July 2023 with the purposes of serving a community of members who reside in the Charities area defined by postcodes G69 9 and G69 0 with the following aims:
To conserve and enhance the woodlands and open spaces of Strathkelvin as a haven for wildlife and an educational and recreational resource for all
To promote the open spaces, by fostering practical action and promoting the area for walking and activities
In its first year the charity was involved with other local groups and its initial membership to make plans for future work and to grow its membership. During this second year the charity has increased it’s membership and recruited three new Directors.
2
Structure, governance and management
Our governance document is our constitution – which is the model constitution for a two tier SCIO.
Trustee recruitment and appointment
Trustees are recruited from the membership at each AGM and must be individuals of minimum age 16 who are ordinary members, associate members and junior members are ineligible to vote.
Achievements and performance
During 2025 the charity grew its membership, applied for grant assistance to move towards a Community Asset Transfer, conducted community consultations regarding plans for specific areas of land and on what local communities want to see happen in their local woodlands, and recruited three new Directors
Financial review
A grant to the value of £3750 was provided by North Lanarkshire Council to assist with valuations and consultation on an area of land which the charity had expressed interest in taking on through a community asset transfer. Monies were utilised for community consultation, and the grant funded 50% of the costs of a valuation of the land, the remaining 50% came from the charity’s bank balance.
Statement of the charity’s policy on reserves
The organisational policy on reserves is reserves of holding a maximum of £2000 in unrestricted reserves to cover running costs in the event of a major problem. Should the reserves exceed £2000 at any point we will consult with the committee and others locally to consider how we use the excess funds for the benefit of local residents and the environment .
Future plans
To grow the membership to beyond 100 members in 25/26, to become members of the Development Trusts Association, to pursue access to woodland through Community Asset Transfer and Community Right to Buy.
To liaise with Community Land Scotland regarding strategies to take community ownership of local woodlands for the purposes of sustainable development as community woodlands

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
