Chairperson’s Summary

Welcome to the initial Annual report of Peterhead FC Community Foundation (SCIO SCO52705) or “PFCCF”. This report covers the period from the Foundation achieving charitable status in August 2023 to the end of our financial year in August 2024.

I was and am extremely humbled to have been chosen by the trustees to take on the position of Chairperson when Conrad stepped down from the Foundation. The Trustees and I have a shared vision & determination to make a positive difference in the town.

It truly has been an incredible year for the Foundation with many highlights in each of our three strategic areas, which will be detailed later in the report, however no success would have been possible without the hard work, commitment and dedication of the trustees, members, delivery partners and volunteers as well as the support of Peterhead FC board and staff, it really is inspiring to see everyone coming together to make a real difference for our community.

Without the dedication of the people involved with our Foundation any success that we had would not have been possible, we are extremely grateful to them all. I would however like to pay tribute to four of our outstanding members who demonstrate that community spirit and took the initiative to make a real positive difference to the Foundation and our community.

I would also like to thank previous Chairperson for his work in enabling the foundation to achieve Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation status (SCIO) as a registered not-for-profit charity on the 18th of August 2023

The other key elements that enabled our growth and the employment of our first full time employee was successful grant applications with thanks to for his efforts in gaining support from the Robertson Trust and Firstport.

I have also been delighted with the number of partnership agreements we have reached in the past year, and it really demonstrates to me that as a community we can be a powerful force for change. I would like to specifically thank Buchan Offshore Wind

2

Background and what we do

Peterhead Football Club has since its inception in 1891 been from the community of Peterhead and has played a prominent role in supporting the community.

In 2020 through to 2022, the coronavirus pandemic has caused havoc with Scottish football, with Peterhead FC heavily impacted placing all employees on furlough and playing staff foregoing wages. However, the areas community spirit and support for the club was demonstrated clearly as supporters and local businesses rallied to help the club in its time of need and the club’s community support was shown via chairman providing free accommodation for NHS staff at the Cock & Bull restaurant and the team promoting vaccinations.

The support the club received from the community during Covid was a catalyst for the football club exploring ways that it could increase its support and services to the community. The outcome was to form an independent charity with a clear vision to play a positive role in our community by inspiring, including, educating and empowering our community to create a sustainable positive change to the community’s health and wellbeing.

Peterhead FC Community Foundation (SCIO SCO52705) or “PFCCF”, achieved Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation status (SCIO) as a registered not-forprofit charity (SC052705) on the 18th of August 2023.

The Foundation delivers a range of community life-enhancing initiatives programmes, from helping young people gain confidence and a positive experience at school, helping people lose weight, feeding the hungry and cold, preventing isolation and providing wellbeing support, Peterhead FC Community Foundation is making a positive and lasting difference to the lives to hundreds of children and adults in Peterhead and Wider Aberdeenshire.

PFCCF Strategic Plan

The published 2021 Aberdeenshire Council Strategic needs assessment for Peterhead outlines the many challenges facing our community such as: alarming rates of obesity, negative impact on life expectancy; an increasing trend of poor mental health, increasing foodbank referrals and areas of our community living in areas of deprivation.

We have developed a five-year strategic plan based on national studies and the Aberdeenshire Council strategic needs assessment for Peterhead to improve the lives of people in and around our community. The strategy focused on three key areas: -

We will only achieve our strategic goals with collaboration from other third-party organisations in the town and the generous support and collaboration of individuals and organisations with similar aims.

Partnerships and Memberships

PFCCF was named as the official Charity Partner of Peterhead FC and will undertake the delivery of all community services.

A key partnership for the Foundation is with Buchan Offshore Wind Ltd which has been crucial to the Foundations development in our first year and provided support for many of the community services we have developed this year as we as expansion of the community coach program.

A special mention to and her team at Buchanhaven Primary School who have been very supportive of the Foundation and have helped define what the Partner School program can deliver and how we would like the relationship to be with other schools.

6

Financial Review

Peterhead FC Community Foundation (PFCCF) agreed a partnership with local accounts and business advisors M Squared Accountants. The partnership provides oversight of our financial performance, payroll support and independent audit of our financial reporting.

PFCCF have sought advice on the ability to claim back on VAT paid and the timing of any VAT Registration with HMRC, this will be further considered by the Trustees.

Examination Of Accounts

M Squared Accountants completed the independent examination of the PFCCF accounts for the year ending on the 31st of August 2024. The examination was completed in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities accounts (Scotland) regulations 2006.

An examination report of the accounts was issued on the 10th of October 2024, which stated that there was no reasonable cause that PFCCF has not met the requirements of the required regulations.

The incoming resources for the year to 31 August 2022 amounted to £47,048.33 and resources expended amounted to £17,878.91, resulting in consolidated positive balance for the year of £29,169.42. However, most of that positive balance is for restricted funds to cover salaries and specific community events.

Cash Flow Projection

The cash flow projection is reviewed monthly by the board of Trustees, the restricted funding from Firstport underpins the commitment for the full-time employee salary, however that funding is only for 1 year, therefore the importance of achieving additional school contracts to support the continued full-time employment and expansion of the partner schools’ program is critical for the Foundation.

This coming year demonstrates a positive cash flow if new contracts can be achieved however in year 3 a deficit of over £20,000.00 is forecast.

If additional contracts cannot be achieved, then the importance of the sponsorship contracts and developing support from local businesses and people to come with us on this journey is an area to be further developed in the year to come.

Health, Wellbeing, and Inclusion Review

Peterhead FC were already active in this element and testament should be paid to the work f was doing in his role of Community liaison officer.

This year was a focus on a smooth transition from the community work that Peterhead FC conducted to the Foundation taking the lead on all Community work, one area that still requires improvement is the communication externally to organisations such as the SPFL Trust is this regard. 7 continues to support the Foundation providing his experience and support to the Health, Wellbeing and Inclusion team.

This year has been a year of developing services to meet the needs of the community and giving more focus to events that exist, the programs the Foundation are delivering are making a real difference in our community and with more planned in the year to come this will increase our social impact and prominence in the community.

Sunday Brunch / Warm Space

Very early in our strategic review it became evident that some children are reliant on free school meals to get nutritious food, but this is limited to term time and school days, there were no other organisations to provide that service on a Sunday.

With the Support of Peterhead FC Chairman PE and liaising with Peterhead primary schools, the Sunday Brunch / Warm Space was devised to provide that service to those in need children. Funding support was gratefully received from Aberdeen Trades Widows Fund and BDP Shell small grants, and that funding has enabled us to open the service to all that may need nutritious food or a heat up.

Women’s Wellness Support Group

As previously stated, the Group is led by P| and the group was initiated with a focus on menopause support and this will develop over the next twelve months, but initial response has been very good, with guest speakers contributing to the discussion.

Health and Wellbeing Day

It was agreed to hold a Health and Wellbeing Day at Balmoor to showcase alternative therapies and treatments to improve the community’s health and well-being in

9

association with Grampian Wellness week. used her extensive contacts to get 14 organisations to either demonstrates their services or put on taster sessions for the public, the response was good throughout the day and positive feedback from the organisations, so something we will look to repeat in 2025.

Boogie in the Bar

The foundation supports Boogie in the bar at Balmoor in association with Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership and Alzheimer’s Scotland, it is an initiative to tackle isolation with a great fun activity that is open to all and is dementia friendly. Currently held on the second Thursday of every month from 13:30 to 15:30.

Festive Friends

This event has become a favourite in the community calendar which looks to support our older age groups and helps those impacted by the cost-of-living crisis and those at higher risk of social isolation. Last year a Christmas lunch was provided for 56 people and there were over 125 hampers delivered for those most in need in our local community.

Football Fans in training.

leads Football Fans in Training which is a SPFL initiative along with support from , the free exercise and weight loss program has proven to be popular and very successful with exceptional results.

Recreational Football – Over 35’s

Community Coach leads the recreational football sessions every Monday evening open to all over the age of 35, this compliments the FFIT program is getting participants to maintain their exercise levels and movement. regularly has between 12 to 14 people attending and this is a service we will look to develop.

Food Bank Collections

The Foundation has held two food bank collections on behalf of the Aberdeenshire North Food bank at Peterhead FC home matches and as usual the support we received from the community was humbling and is something we will repeat next year.

==> picture [468 x 136] intentionally omitted <==

Looking forward the goals for the committee are: -

  1. Development of further Dementia friendly activities and support such as Football memories, Music Memories and Dementia carer support group

  2. Development of Walking group to encourage companionship and health activity

10

  1. Increase promotion and support from Mental health initiatives and develop partnership with Shirley’s Space etc.

  2. Develop further programs to enable people to develop healthier lifestyles.

  3. Development of initiative to assist the settlement of refugees in our community.

Football Development Review

The committee has been formed led by PFCCF Trustees , the committee identified the prioritisation of forming a Under 18 development team as there was a void from leaving boys club football to Junior or senior football, which meant a real risk of many players dropping out of football and regular exercise.

Agreement was reached to form the Under 18 development team with Buchanhaven Hearts JFC and to apply to play in the Highland league development league. There was a huge response to the open trails for players which underlines the desire and need. Thanks to Peterhead FC support the team will utilise Balmoor Stadium when available, as well as overseeing the boy’s progression.

The administration to set up the team in such a short timeframe was a significant task, as stated previously the efforts from in getting the team and coaches through the new SFA comet system was exceptional.

At a community level the coaching camps were fully booked for March, July and October which we will review to ensure we have a capacity to meet the demand.

organised additional Ballers coaching sessions which were well attended in both the July and October school holidays, this again will form part of the review in how the coaching sessions are delivered in the future. The foundation would like to thank Strachans for their support to the camps providing water and fruit to all the children to ensure they were hydrated and well-nourished.

Looking forward the goals for the committee are: -

  1. Finalise the committee and agree affiliated club agreement document.

  2. Develop Community Club and achieve SFA Community Club Quality mark.

  3. Develop Coach & Player pathways to enable all to reach their potential.

  4. Develop and support Women’s and Girls football in Peterhead.

  5. Input and provide support for Catto Park development project.

  6. Review of current coaching camp set up and opportunities to expand.

11

Education and Employment Review

Education is a fundamental element in our mission to create a sustainable positive change in the community through educating in engaging and inspiring programs which focus on life skills such as teamwork, cooperation, trust, honesty, and integrity.

We provide a positive culture where individuals feel included, valued, and able to build critical social and emotional skills to inspire confidence and hope and improve the life chances our young people and adults across Aberdeenshire.

Our flagship program is the Partner School Program, which resulted in a case study into our work with the school and the impact of the program. The evaluation of the impact covered key elements such as increase in positive behaviours, attendance, and meta skills attainment such as self-management, social intelligence and successful collaboration and improved communication.

Building on the successful partnership with Buchanhaven primary we have now employed a full-time staff member to develop this program further and expand the program to other schools in Peterhead.

The ability to employ people full time is due to the generous support of our sponsors Buchan Wind Offshore Ltd and funding from Firstport,

The foundation is an approved contractor for the Aberdeenshire Councils Active Schools programme, which provides taster sessions to schools all over wider Aberdeenshire and to school in Peterhead, this is area we are looking to further develop.

This year saw the creation of Buchan-moor Bairns an activity play area located at the East stand in Balmoor stadium, the Foundation would like to thank

and her team for the initial vision and planning for the initiative. The play area was opened by local councillors and monthly play sessions are available to be booked.

Over this year we have also been developing our Volunteering program so that can provide real opportunities to not only for work experience but to enable life skills development towards employability. We are fortunate that we can engage with our community in the way that few other organisations can, where they can see their tangible efforts impacting our community in a positive way.

Looking forward the goals for the committee are: -

  1. Gain agreement of the Partner School deliverables against the appropriate elements of the Curriculum of Excellence

12

  1. Expand the Partner School program to a minimum of two addition local schools.

  2. Attract local companies support for the Partner schools’ program.

  3. Deliver free sports coaching to ASN children at a local school.

  4. Development and recognition of the PFCCF Volunteering program.

  5. Development of support to HMP Grampian in regards healthier lifestyles of inmates.

Future – Catto Park Development Project

We have progressed plans to redevelop Catto Park and improve the facilities, funding was secured for a feasibility study, and a valuation has been sought for the area and have been engaging with Aberdeenshire Council on our plans for the area.

An expression of interest has been prepared for submission and once the site valuation has been received this will be submitted for the Councils consideration.

When we can share some details on the project we will in due course, it is an exciting project but will take some time to work through the various stages.
