| Russian-speaking Edinburgh provides educational and cultural | ||
services in support of the Russian-speaking community across Edinburgh and the wider region. Our main activity is weekly Saturday classes for children, aimed to foster young learners' language skills and cultural awareness. We also host social and cultural events for the Russian-speaking community alongside everyone interested in Russian language and cultural heritage. |
||
| We offer Russian language education for children and adults across Scotland, with most of | ||
our learners coming from Edinburgh, the Lothians, Borders, Stirling, and parts of Fife. We mostly focus on in-person classes taking place at St George's School for Girls where we also hold social and cultural events throughout the year. We support children from mostly bilingual and multilingual backgrounds as well as the wider Russian-speaking community by joint cultural activities (excursions, performances, contests, parties). We also maintain an extensive lending library with resources for both children and adults, making Russian language and culture heritage accessible to everyone. Additionally, we support formal Russian language education by providing tuition for recognised qualifications, including GCSE and A-level exams. |

APPENDIX 1
Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of SCIO "Russian-speaking Edinburgh" (SC052646) is the charity during the financial period established to replace the existing unincorporated charity "Russian Edinburgh" (SC036049) and to transfer all its activities to the incorporated body. However, setting up a bank account for the new organisation took a significant time, thus no activities were carried out and no funds were moved during this financial period. During this period, "Russian-speaking Edinburgh" was being prepared to undertake all activities from the predecessor charity "Russian Edinburgh".
Financial review
| Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves Details of any deficit Donated facilities and services (if any) |
Russian-speaking Edinburgh aims to maintain a sustainable level of |
|---|---|
reserves to allow the organisation to absorb increases in expenditure, such as salary and rent increases, fees subsidies for low-income members, subsidies for extracurricular activities for members, increased need for teaching and learning materials etc. These reserves should allow us to keep the membership fees affordable and relatively stable. Reserves should be maintained at the level between 1/3 and 100% of the previous financial year's expenditure. The Committee of Trustees aims to reinvest the funds mentioned above into further development of our services. |
