Structure, Governance and Management

Constitution

The Charity is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (a SCIO). It was registered in its current legal form on 31[st] May 2023. The charity was previously an unincorporated association but changed its legal form to SCIO. It has a single tier structure and as such the trustees are the members of the charity.

Appointment of trustees

The Trustees of the Charity normally meet once a month on the last Friday of the month.

Trustees are volunteers from within and out with the charity and as such no election process is required.

Trustees bring with them a wealth of knowledge skills to help ensure that the Charity is administered properly and to also help with its growth.

There must be a minimum of four and a maximum of eight trustees.

Objectives and Activities

Charitable purposes

To promote personal growth and provide a safe place for young people to learn about martial arts, themselves and others.

Our core aims are to widen access to martial arts in Scotland whilst improving mental and physical health and to reduce disadvantage and inequality.

Financial review

Our main source of funding is donations from the public and local businesses which help fund training spaces and equipments for participants.

In the year to 31[st] May 2025, our total donations received amounted to £10,168.

During the year the charity received three grants:

The Corra Foundation £3,000 Cash For Kids £2,400 Scottish Children Lottery £1,000

Our team supported by fellow gym members participated The Edinburgh Kiltwalk 2024 which helped raise awareness and funds.

A Charity Gala event was held in May 2025 at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh was attended by supporters of the charity and as number of businesses. A net surplus was raised from proceedings in the amount of £6617.

During the year we moved premises to a new facility at Gorgie Road. We began generating rental income by renting the space to Endangered Martial Arts & CrossFit Limited who provide the training and instructors for the charity trainees.

Endangered Fightwear is our sister company, and we have been able to supply all equipment necessary for our beneficiaries at low cost unlike our competition.

Their continued support means that running costs for the charity are minimal.

We have held two community days at our facility to welcome new and existing members to fun sessions of martial arts while raising awareness and fundraising.

Over the first year we have supported 13 individuals on fully complimentary basis and supplied 35 t-shirts, 10 pairs of shinpads, 20 pairs of junior boxing gloves and 17 pairs of shorts. Further five individuals were supported with 1-2-1 sessions.

Plans for future period

The trustees intend to continue to develop the service and expand our reach in our community.

Collaborating with The WHY Project on Family Fun Day to welcome over 400 parents and their children for fun activities and sports day with the provision of complimentary food for everyone.

The plans for 2025 include Muay Thai summer camp that would welcome up to 100 children over the course of 5 weeks, Monday to Friday. Each of these children would also receive the essential equipment and lunch for the duration of the camp.

The charity is determined to deliver sessions at other organisations and local schools. We are working with Spartans FC, The WHY project and Sported to accomplish this goal.

Second fundraising charity gala will take place in May 2025.
