## Financial Review 

During the period the charity received donations of £4,916.46. This included donations from The Banchory Show totalling £500.  Donations from membership subscriptions amounted to £1,442.79. Donations from bank balances from the old unincorporated club came to £2,973.67. 

The Charity received receipts of £1,300.29 from carrying out a number of quizzes. 

The total received by the Charity was £6,216.75. 

The Charity incurred expenses in fundraising activities and other costs of £3,394.03. The charity provided donations to organisations totalling £1,178. 

Overall, this has resulted in a net surplus for the year of £2,822.72. 

## Grants and Donations 

During the year the Charity made three donations. 

Local Community 

A donation was made to the Charity We Too of £350.00. 

£468 was spent to purchase books from the Wild Tribe Heroes website.  These are intended for distribution as part of a rolling programme of Aberdeen Primary Schools. £81.00 went to support junior Lions (Leos). 

National Organisations 

£360 was donated to RNIB 



## Statement of the Charity’s Policy on Reserves 

Donations for undertaking car parking duties for the Banchory show and undertaking Race Nights provide sufficient funds to undertake charitable activities. Constitutionally, administrative costs are borne by the membership fees. The club holds an appropriate level of reserves for our future plans. 

## Future Plans 

We meet on a regular basis online and face-to-face, where we plan our events for the future season. We plan a number of events that we carry out directly or jointly with other organizations/charities.  We plan to continue our engagement with the local community, schools, and aim to support charities which are part of the policy of Lion’s International. Diabetes, Vision, Childhood Cancer, Hunger, Youth, Humanitarian Efforts and Disaster Relief.  We plan to continue working with our Leos Group to support them in their efforts.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of Aberdeen Bon Accord Lions Club (SCIO) 

I report on the accounts of the charity, Aberdeen Bon Accord Lions Club (SCIO) for the period 20[th] April 2023 to 30[th] June, 2024. 

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner 

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. 

Basis of independent examiner’s statement 

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 1 of the 2006 Accounts.  An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the of accounts presented with these records.  It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts,  and seeks explanation from trustees concerning any such matters.  The procedures  undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required by and audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts. 

Independent Examiner’s statement 

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention 

1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: 

• to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and 

• to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations 

have not been met, or 

2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **Background to Lions International** 

Lions mission is to empower Lions clubs, volunteers and partners to improve health and wellbeing, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian service and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding. 

As members of Lions International, we are a part of the world’s largest voluntary service organisation with 1.4 million members in over 200 countries 

Globally, our core service areas are Vision, Paediatric Cancer, Disaster relief, Humanitarian Aid, Diabetes, Youth, the Environment and Hunger. 

Individual Clubs are free to select which of these they support. They may also choose other local causes instead. Support may be financial or by “hands on” help. This may be done as Lions projects, or in conjunction with other groups. 

## **Background to Aberdeen Bon Accord Lions Club SCIO 052500** 

The Club was registered as a SCIO on 20[th] April 2023 from Aberdeen Bon Accord Lions Club. This was formed as a branch Club of Aberdeen Lions Club and received its charter from Lions International, the umbrella organisation, in 2009 and is governed by its constitution and bylaws. (Appendix 1 and 2) which form the governing document of the charity. 

Trustees are appointed by election by the Club members and represent the main areas of the Club’s life. Trustees over this period have been 

Since Covid, the Club has struggled to maintain membership and recruitment has been poor. This has impacted on the type and frequency of both service and fundraising undertaken. 



Aberdeen Bon Accord Lions service and fundraising from 20[th] April 2023 to 30[th] June 2024 

As a Club, we have a heavy commitment to Youth. For the past 19 years, we have shared responsibility for a Leo Club with Harlaw Academy in Aberdeen. The Leo Club aims to promote personal development of **L** eadership, **E** xperience and give **O** pportunities to do so with S5 and S6 pupils through fund raising and service events. Although largely autonomous, oversight is jointly by a Leo Advisor and the Principal Teacher of Wider Achievent. The good causes supported are chosen by the Leos and any funds raised are supervised through the School Fund. Leos membership dues are paid by Aberdeen Bon Accord Lions Club SCIO. 

The events undertaken by Leos have included joint activities with the parent Lion Club and the school’s PTA as well as their own projects. Events have included a quiz night, assisting at MacMillan Coffee morning, Soak the teacher, Dress down days and Xmas Jumper days, Candy Cane sales, and Home bake sales. Beneficiaries have included Inchgarth Community Centre food bank (12 bags of groceries and £40), MacMillan Cancer support (£320) Chas (£188), Home Start (£179) Save the Children (£267) Red Cross (£232). 

The joint activity with the school’s PTA was to recycle school uniforms which collected 30 bags of uniform items. The joint activity with the parent Lions Club was to provide 10 sets of seven of the Wild Tribe Heroes books to the Leos feeder primaries (£360). 

From a Lions perspective, the development of good citizenship and personal skills is more important that than the financial gain and the Club has continued to be very successful in developing this. 

The joint activity with Lions was a contribution to the parent Clubs ongoing project to purchase a set of books which introduce environmental stewardship to early stages primary school pupils in an age-appropriate way. We hope to donate sets of these to each Aberdeen primary school in a rolling programme. 



This is funded from the £500 donation we received from The Banchory Show for assisting car parking. To achieve our aim will take a number of years. 


This also represents our environmental commitment although we try to undertake tree planting every other year. 

Financial support was also given to We Too! which assists children with multiple needs but usually includes autism. This was funded by Bingo Night which raised £341, rounded up to £350. 


We Too! Was also supported by staffing a “chill out” area for overwhelmed youngsters on two evenings during the city’s SPECTRA Festival of light. 



Paediatric Cancer support has been through stewarding support and manning a water station at Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. Cancer support services, Maggie’s, also received support from Aberdeen Bon Accord Lions giving out refreshments at their Firewalk which had one Lion participating. 


Humanitarian Aid has been given through our long-term support for local charity Abernecessities which provides disadvantaged families with the essential and basic necessities that “No Child Should Go Without”. A number of supermarkets in and around the city have trolleys to collect donated goods, such as babies clothes and blankets. Our Lions collect from two of them and deliver to Abernecessities HQ. Some of our members knit to provide goods. 

Vision support was by a fundraising quiz which raised £360 for the RNIB charity.
