Formation o(¢harity
The Funerdl Fund Ass(Kiation {SCIO) was fonnally registered as a charity by the Scottish Charity
Regulator (OSCR) on 22 March 2023. Prior to ihaL the organisation had been known as The
Funerdl Fund Association for Lewis Fishcrnien and Women. All were transferred into the
harity.
Objeetlves and Activities

This long-esiablished Funeral Fund has iKen providing reassurdnce for i51and families since 1904.
Originally set up to repatriaie the remains of fishernien and those ancillary wotkels who followed
th¢ herring flcets around the UK, the fund continues to do this but. duc to on-going demand. is also
available to any persons. up to ihe agc of fifty-fivc on first membership. residing in Wards 5-1 l of
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar i.e. (he town of StsnK)way and the aT¢&S of PoinL Back and Lochs.
The Funeral Fund ¢ontribut&S UP to £4￿ iowards the cost of the cotTin and up to £8(K) towards the
CO￿ of transport olihe remains back to Lewis for burial. For the elderly, those in ill-health. those
affected by disability. those in fjnancffial hardship or disadvantaged in any other way• thc
knowledge that these costs will be borne by the Funeral Fund brings great comfort.
The Fund volunteers ailn to continue this re&ssurance.

Achievement and Performance
The Fund's twenty-eight volunteer comnlittee member4 which included the six Tnjslees, all pull
rogether lo ensuTe that the five ihousand members are well served by the Fund. The Trustees
continue to engage with the local media to remind the public ihal the Fund offers support ITJ time
of need. The weekly n¢wspaper'Stornoway Gazette. and the rnonthly cotnmunity magazines have
recently Carried articles explaining ihe service offered by the Fund and reminding Members how
(o pay their fees.
Th¢ twenty-eight committee members S¢TV¢ &8 ¢ontscts for the members in their own areas and
are a source of advice and support to membeTh Funeral claims aTe pro¢¢￿ed quickly.
The Fund continues lo bc able to donate money annually to the I￿1 hospital and hospice and lo
Ihe care homes. all situated in the area of Stornoway. The trusiees consider these donations to be
in line with Section 4 (b) of the constitution, where the stale charitable PUTposes 15 to, "Relieve
those in need by reason of age. ill-healih. disability. financial hardship or othcr disadvantages."
Flnancial Revie
The principal fijnding source for the Fund comes from ihe very modest annual membership fee of
£1.50 per member.
The charity rescrves are maintained in a bank account wilh the Royal Bank of Scoiland and lo date
thc level of reserves has been more than suffici¢nt to meet the administrative Tunnin8 expenses of
Ihc charity and to rnc¢t all funeral claims submitted. With the agreement of the T￿￿teeS and
approved by a membeTS meeling. a Te5erv¢ a¢¢ount has been opened with Royal Bank of Scotland
which offers better interest rates and a small working account remains with Royal Bank of
Scotland.
Trustee remuneration and expenses
The only remuneration paid lo Irustees in the period under review relaled to fees payable to the
Secretary and Treasurer. for Services rendered in these regards. Payment for adminisiration work,
being different to the work of T￿￿tees, is perniissible under Clause 6, whereby the Fund's
purposes noted in Clause 4 are furthered by administrative work

The trustees have not yel eslabli5h¢d a r￿erveS policy.
Futhre Plans
The Trnstees and ihe Cornmitte¢ continue to WO￿ together io ensu￿ th¢ continuation of the Fund
for the reassuring benefit of all its members.
Trustces continue to make cfforts to attract more volunieers from the outlying communitics.

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Rem of the Trustees and the financial statements
in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom
Generally Accepted Accouniing Practice).

2005. Charities Accounts {SC￿land) R¢gulations 2(KI6 (as amended) and the provisions of the
Charitys constitution. requires the trustees to prq)are financial statements for Wdch financial year
which give a true and fair view of the stale of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources

I report on the accounls of th¢ charity for the period ended 30th September 2024 which are set out
on page5 4 and 5.
Regpertlve responsibilities of trustees examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of ihe accounts in ac¢ordan¢e with the
lemis of ihe Chariti¢s and TTUStee Investment (Scotland) Act 2(X)5 and the Charities Accounis
(Scotland) Regulations 2006. The chariry t￿￿tee5 consider that the audil requirement of Regulalion
10(1 ) (d) of the Accounls Regulations do&s not apply. It is Tny responsibility to examine the
accounts as required under section 44(1) {c) of the Act and to stale whether particular matters have
come to my attention.
Basis of independeDt examiDer5' Statement
My examination is Ca￿led out in accordance with Regulation I l of the Charities Accounts
(S¢otland) Regulations 2006. An examlnation includes a review of the accounting records kept by
Ihe charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It 8150 includes
consideration of any unusual iiems or disclosures in the accounts. and seeks explanations from the
irnstees concerning any such mallers. The pN)cedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence
that would b¢ r¢quir¢d in an audit. and Consequently I do not expre&s an audit opinion on the view
