LIGHTLABDS PARK INITIATIVE IS A SMALL COMMUNITY CHARITY WITH THE AIM OF UPGRADING OUR LOCAL PARK BY CREATING AN INCLUSIVE MULTI-SENSORY AREA TO ACCOMMODATE ALL AGE AND ABILITIES IN A SECURE, SAFE ENVIRONMENT ACCESSIBLE TO ALL. WIGTOWN HAS NO INCLUSIVE PLAY FACILITY CURRENTLY AND WE INTEND TO CHANGE THIS THROUGH OUR CHARITY.
THE PROJECT WILL BE COMPLETED IN PHASES WITH THE FIRST PHASE BEING THE MULTI-SENSORY PLAY AREA AND PARK REDEVELOPMENT BEFORE MOVING ON TO AN AREA FOR TEENAGERS AND YOUNG PEOPLE AND THE CREATION OF A COMMUNITY GARDEN.
WE HOLD BI-QUARTERLY MEETINGS WITH ADDITIONAL MEETINGS TAKING PLACE TO PLAN EVENTS. ANYONE WITH AN INTEREST IN SUPPORTING THE UPGRADE OF THE PARK IS WELCOME TO JOIN THE COMMITTEE OR ATTEND MEETINGS WHICH ARE ADVERTISED ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE.
OVER THE PAST YEAR WE HAVE BEEN LIAISING WITH SURROUNDING VILLAGES AND TOWNS WHO HAVE BEEN UPGRADING THEIR LOCAL PARKS FOR ADVICE AND SUPPORT.

SUCCESSFUL IN SECURING £80,000 FROM COASTAL BENEFIT FUND. COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND ENGAGEMENT HAS BEEN OVERWHELMING VIA EVENT SUPPORT, CONTRIBUTIONS AND FUNDING.
AN AGREEMENT HAS BEEN MADE BY DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY COUNCIL FOR THE UPKEEP AND MAINTENANCE OF THE PARK. AS A COMMITTEE WE FELT STRONGLY THAT A 25 YEAR LEASE OR TAKING OWNERSHIP OF THE PARK WASN’T FEASIBLE OR PRACTICAL FOR OUR CURRENT COMMITTEE MEMBER’S FAMILY COMMITMENTS.
