partirypation, and a sense of responsibilty among Gambians in their u)mmunities.
2. Advan￿rnent of Education
The organisation supp￿￿ both fomial and informal education inrtiatives aimed at the
Gambian communty in Scotland. This encompasses not onty traditional academic leaming
but also lrfe skills and personal deveWmenL ensuring indNiduals are well equipped for
personal and professional growth.
3. Advancernent of Arts, Heritage. and Culture5
A key purpose is to celebrate and advance the arts, heritage, and culbJre5 of both The
Gambia and Scolarbd. This objective seeks to benefft Gambians INing in Scotland as well
as the wider public, fostering greater undetstanding and appreaation of the Tich eultural
traditions of both nat￿n$.
4. Promotion of Racial Hamiony
The organisation is dedicated to promoting racrdl hamiony. Through its activities and
initiatives. r( aims to encourage mutual respect, undersLinding, and peaceful coexistence

1. March 2024: Cornmunty Learning and Development Training
GAMSCA conducted CLD training funded by the Scottish Govemmenl covering youth
work, safeguarding. GDPR. and mental heatth. Members gained essential skills for
supporting ehildren, young people. and families.
2. April 2024: ACEP Funding Secured
GAMSCA received National Lottery funding to start ACEP. offering inclusive arts
wort(shops to foster Cfeativty, unity. and confidence among dNerse families and youth.
3. May 2024: Launch of GAMSCA Youth
GAMSCA Youth launched to empower yc4Jng voices. wth a successful first online sesS￿n
led by sUppO￿ve youth workers.
4. June 2024.. Refugee Festival Scotland
GAMSCA joined Refugee Festival s￿￿and at Glasgow Green. celebrating resilience and
diversty through music, dance, and shared culture.
5. August 2024- February 2025: Community Events and Workshops
GAMSCA hosted events including gambling awareness. anti-￿sM and inclusion
workshops. E-visa and substance use Sessic￿S Iwth certtficatesl. an end-of-year

GAMSCA is eLKnmitted to addressing hardship. enhaneing educational opportuntties,
and promoting eultural understanding among Gambians and the broader African
community in Seoland. Operating in accc*danee with the Charities and Trustee
Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, the organisation seeks to deliver substsntive beneffts
to the communty through a diverse Portfol￿ of prcMJrammes and initiatives.
Achievements and Perfofmance
From January 2024 to December 2024. GAMSCA execJJted a (￿)prehenSIVe range
of cultural. educat￿nal, and welfare activrties aimed al suppM)rting and unf(ing
members ofthe communty. Notable achievements during this period include the
coordination of S￿n￿can1 events such as the Gambian Independence Day
celebrats"ons, the Annual Cumural FestNal. Refijgee Fethal Scouand, Eid gatherings.
and a children's end-of-year party.
Parb"cularfy noteworthy was Refvgee Fests"val Scotland. which featured music.
storytelling. and cuisine under the theme"RISF. This event was instrumental in
promoting inclusion and facilrtating cross-cu￿ra1 understanding within the local
communty.
Another major accomplishnEnt was the Initiat￿)n of the three-year Artistic Community
Engagement Programme IACEPI. funded by the National Lottery. This prctyJramme
offered creative workshops in music. dance. and visual arts for children, young
people, and families, fostering confidence. wellbeing. and cultural expression
throughout the communrty.
Addthonal initiatives induded the fomiation of the GAMSCA Youth Group. summer
foolball programmes, and a series of educational workshops covering safeguarding,
anti-racism. gambling, substance use. the E-visa process, and social security. These
sessions were conducted in collaboration with partners such as the Scottish
Govemment, Home Office, and Social Securty Scodand. Furthemiore, a partnership
project with Cyding UK facilitated the provision of bicycles to communty member5,
helping to reduce barriers to participation and encourage active engagement.

for funeral assistanee and for responding to hardship and serious aeadents wtthin the

## **Financial Review Overview** 

Throughout 2024, the Gambians & Friends in Scotland Community Association (GAMSCA) managed its finances with exceptional care and diligence. The charity’s income was primarily sourced from donations, grants, subscriptions, and a variety of fundraising events. Expenditures were focused on supporting charitable activities, with ongoing efforts to closely monitor and contain administrative costs. Detailed financial figures are available in Section A of the Statement of Receipts and Payments. 

## **Receipts** 

## **Donations** 

Donations in 2024 were largely generated from the Eid celebrations and other community events held throughout the year, including cultural gatherings. The total donations received amounted to £2,663, reflecting a substantial increase from the £2,202 collected in 2023. This growth equates to a 21% year-on-year rise in donation income. 

## **Emergency Contributions** 

Emergency contributions were made through monthly payments of £5 by members. In 2024, these contributions totaled £3,335, which is a slight decrease of 5% compared to the £3,500 received in 2023. 

## **Grants** 

GAMSCA secured £38,688 in grant funding from key donors in 2024, a significant increase from the £9,540 received in the previous year. This substantial growth was mainly attributed to the successful acquisition of a two-year arts project and the completion of other funded initiatives during the year. 

## **Fundraising Activities** 

Fundraising activities in 2024 focused on significant cultural events such as Tanabirr, club nights, and the Independence celebration. These events generated £6,242, a marked improvement from the £2,703 raised in 2023, highlighting the effectiveness of our community-led fundraising efforts. 

## **Total Funds Raised** 

The total income raised by GAMSCA in 2024 reached £55,326, compared to £17,945 in 2023. This demonstrates robust year-on-year growth and enhanced financial sustainability for the charity. 

## **Payments / Expenses** 

GAMSCA’s total expenditure for the year ended 31 December 2024 was £36,956. This figure is up from £14,743 in 2023, reflecting the increased delivery of charitable projects and activities aligned with the charity’s objectives. 

## **Closing Balance** 

At the end of the 2024 financial year, GAMSCA’s cash balance stood at £39,974. The charity is in a strong financial position, maintaining sufficient reserves to support ongoing programs and future community initiatives. 

## **Conclusion** 

In summary, 2024 was a year of considerable financial growth and impact for GAMSCA. The trustees remain committed to maintaining robust financial governance, diversifying funding streams, and ensuring that all resources continue to deliver public benefit in accordance with the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and OSCR guidance.
