## **Achievements and performance**

**Summary of the main achievements of** The most impactful outcome in this financial year was the production of a full- **the charity during the financial period** length feature film by the charity users. Over the course of the year, they learned valuable, industry-standard skills through our workshops, which gave them the confidence, and the practical knowledge, to perform the roles needed to complete the film.

A second, equally ambitious film was in development by the end of the year, with the shoot planned for May 2025.

As well as continuing to support those who have engaged with the charity since its inception, in this year we also attracted many new aspiring creatives from across Scotland, who have now gained valuable experience in various aspects of filmmaking, as well as forging strong, concrete connections with fellow creatives. Many of the charity's users have since gone on to secure paid work in film, as well as making films of their own with the collaborators they have met through the charity.

## **Financial review**

**Brief statement of the charity’s policy** The charity does not currently hold reserves. **on reserves Details of any deficit** There is no deficit in this financial year. **Donated facilities and services (if any)** All workshop facilitators provided their services for free in this financial year for no financial or other benefit.

Charity Trustees

Who We Are
Fife Creative Studios was bom out of the passion of a small group of
Scottish filmmakers to make film accessible to all. Founded in 2022,
the project is spearheaded by Sarah Daly, a screenwriter and producer
with over fifteen years of experien￿ in the film industry, now driven to
help others to get involved in this exciting and rewarding field.
The Trustees

## **Our Mission**

Fife Creative Studios has ambitious aims to engage the community in the exciting world of film, building skills and providing experiences in a discipline that is often seen as exclusionary. We believe that anyone with a passion for film, or creative aspirations of any kind, should have the opportunity to take part, learn, and grow.

## **Objectives and activities**

## **The charity's objectives are:**

The organisation's purposes are:

(a) The advancement of arts and culture by promoting engagement with filmmaking and film-related activities in Scotland by producing high-quality films and audiovisual content with the participation of the community.

(b) The advancement of education, by providing training opportunities to the community via hands-on workshops on the artistic and technical aspects of filmmaking.

(c) The provision of recreational activities, such as film screenings, festivals, and networking events which are accessible to all to encourage local engagement with arts and culture, and enhance quality of life for all those involved.

(d) The advancement of community development by fostering a vibrant cultural scene with a focus on independent filmmaking, creating opportunities to get involved with film in an area where such endeavours are difficult to access.

(e) Providing assistance to relevant projects with similar purposes, by promoting and/or supporting other synergistic initiatives or activities for the benefit of the general public, as the trustees deem appropriate.

5

## **Why was Fife Creative Studios set up?**

Fife Creative Studios was born out of a desire to make filmmaking accessible to everyone. Often, the medium is gatekept by large companies and institutions, or reserved only for those who can afford to support themselves financially through expensive training. For many, it would seem an impossible dream to become involved in film, but we wanted to change that.

We're passionate about filmmaking as a means to give a voice to underrepresented parts of the community, as a means of selfexpression, and as a viable career for anyone with the dedication and drive to make it happen. So, we aim to seek out, nurture, and support aspiring creatives to learn more about filmmaking, to build skills and confidence, and ultimately to actively participate in film productions.

On a grander note, we believe that a nation's ability to tell its own stories with confidence is a vital part of its cultural landscape, and so we aim to support and grow indigenous Scottish film production from the ground up.

## **Who does the charity help?**

The charity seeks to support anyone with an interest in filmmaking. We have no specific remit in terms of age, gender, economic class, or any other factors. However, we are particularly keen to reach those who might be less likely to have the confidence or the means to participate in the arts, and we take tangible steps to achieve this.

In this financial year, we focussed a lot of our efforts on building more specialised skills, readying participants for professional film environments, as well as teaching them all the skills necessary to produce their own creative output with confidence. This will cumulate in the production of a feature film, to be completed in late 2025.

## **What activities did the charity engage in this year?**

The charity hosted a number of free events, workshops, and talks, reaching hundreds of people from all over Scotland. We are

6

committed, wherever possible, to ensuring that all our events are free to attend, for maximum accessibility.

Our activities this year included, but are not limited to:

- An induction session for students interested in learning more about filmmaking

- A workshop on 'Post-Production Sound Techniques' covering various software and methods

- A film pitching workshops, where participants delivered and received feedback on film pitches

- The most popular pitches then went on to be produced into two full-length feature films, produced by service users, with support, filming locations, and resources provided by Fife Creative Studios

- A workshop teaching students the basics of film grading techniques

- An intensive practical camera and sound workshop for those participants involved in making the feature films

- Our Annual General Meeting, which saw the trustees discuss our achievements in the previous year, and set goals for the next

- A workshop covering the fundamentals of Production Admin and film scheduling

- One-on-one individually tailored tuition for aspiring filmmakers to gain industry-relevant skills in areas such as: film concept development, pitching, editing, sound design, and colour grading.

**What were the outcomes of the charity's endeavours, and what impact did they have?**

The most impactful outcome in this year was the production of a fulllength feature film by the charity users. Over the course of the year, they learned valuable, industry-standard skills through our workshops,

7

which gave them the confidence, and the practical knowledge, to perform the roles needed to complete the film.

Another film was in development by the end of the year, with the shoot planned for May 2025.

## **Structure, governance and management**

Type of governing document

Fife Creative Studios operates under a constitution, which outlines the purposes of our charity, as described above in the “Objectives and Activities”.

Trustees meet regularly to discuss the constitution, and whether any changes should be proposed/ implemented as the charity develops.

Trustee recruitment and appointment

Appointments and resignations are carried out in line with the guidance set forth in the constitution.
