Bonnie Peebles SCIO Report & Financial Statements st Year to 31 March 2025 X* Registered Charity No SC052220 www.bonnie eebles.or Introduction Bonnie Peebles was forrned in 2006 as a small group of local volunteers under the umbrella of Peebles Community Council to take over some of the gardening duties previously undertaken by the local authority. A change to the status of Bonnie Peebles came about in 2020, when the Cornmunity Council and Ihe Bonnie Peebles committee decided that it was perhaps more appropriate that the two organisations should separate, and that Bonnie Peebles would be affiliated to the Peebles Community Trust, In 2022 Bonnie Peebles received a large bequest and it was decided lo apply for charitable status. After parting from Peebles Community Trust, Bonnie Peebles set out their own Constitution and applied lo set up as a single tier SCIO. This was granted to Bonnie Peebl8S on 4th January, 2023. Objectlves The objectives of Bonnie Peebles are to advance citizenship or community development by working to keep Peebles a pleasant and attractive place to live in or to visit. We achieve this by planting summer and winter flowers and bulbs; plant shrubs and trees in appropriate places and commission artworks to commemorat8 events or paople significant to the town. Achlevements In the past year We have again had a very successful year with our fundraising projects. We held quiz nights in February and November and coffee mornings in April and September. Each event was very well attended and again people were very generous. We have also received many donations from the public who appreciate the work we do. We have had photographs and articles published in our local magazine and newspaper informing the public of our work in the town. The four seats which Bonni8 Peebles SCIO commissioned last year were installed at our sensory garden. Local business man, and his men placed the seats for us. The installation was completed withou cosi to us as part of their work for the community. A new waste bin was also purchased by us and placed at the sensory garden. Small signs were placed at the entry to Peebles War Mernorial informing people that the Memorial Garden is planted and maintained by Bonni8 Peebles SCIO volunteers. We also replaced four urns within the War Memorial as the old ones were becoming unsafe. Our garden in the Northgato has also received some attention with the waler featur8 being repainted and the unsightly black bin replaced with a new bin which matches the water feature. Our plans for this year are to replace the seating in this garden. We bought 15,000 crocus bulbs to be planted in October. 1,000 were planted at Hay Lodge Park and with the help of Peebles Young Farmers, 14,000 were planted on the Edinburgh Road. The display looked very effective and we hope to purchase more this year to perhaps complete this large area. Another project which we have undertaken has been to refurbish a horse plough which was kindly donated to Bonnie Peebles. This has now been installed at what were our rose beds with the help Of￿ who provided a flatbed trailer for transportation. Again, helped by lifting the topsoil and delivering it locally where we can source it for our gar ens. Six tonnes of gravel has also been delivered and spread and large stones placed. We have purchased a variety of plants which will hopefully help birds. bees and buttertlies. Our winter plants were lifted and relocated with some again given to Peebles Golf Club. The tulip bulbs were all dried, cleaned and packed ready for autumn planting. 5,000 summer plants were delivered and planted within 2 days by our volunteers. Due to a wet summer no watering was needed. We again placed 10 hanging baskets on the High Street, 8 hanging baskets within the War Memorial and filled 7 flower containers. The baskets and containers had to be watered and a rota for watering was organised; this seemed to work well. Summer plants were lifted in October. 4,460 winter plants, 15.200 bulbs and 5 shrubs were all planted ready for spring. We would like to take this opportunity to thank most sincerely all our volunteers, who work with enthusiasm, and the people of Peebles for their continued financial support, encouragement and goodwill without which we could not continue.
