accounting policies sel out in ihe notes to Ihc accounls and comply with the charity's conslitution,
the Ch¥irities dnd Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, Ihe Charities Account% (Scorland)
Regulations 20(16 (as amended) and Accounting and Reporting by Charili¢s: Stal¢mcnl of
Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparlng their accounts in accordance with the
Financial R¢porting Standard applicable in ihe UK and R¢public ofireland.
Aims and Aifiliation
Cornerstolle Free Church of Scotland is a congregat20n of ihe Fre¢ Church of Scotland working
towards. tlie Lon]mon aiins set out below. It is a Presbyterian church adhering in its worship and
doctrffine to the position of the Church of Scotland at the Reforniation. The Free Church of Scotland
hos an explanatory document which explains the origins of the Church and which gives tbe
historical background to ihe Church coming Ènto bcffing in 1843 and lisÉs documenls in which is
embodied the constitution of the Church. The document is available on request from the Pree
Church of Scotland. 15 North Bank St.. The Mound. Edinburgh, EHI 2LS.
The Frec Church of S¢oiland currently has over 100 congrcgations in Scolland, as well as one li)
London and several in North AmeTica, and sister c.hurches founded by inission work in India. Peru
and South Africa. The Church also has a seminary in Edinburgh for the training of ministers and
other Christian workers and sustriins an extensive missionary pr()grdinine relative to the size of the
church. The principal activity of the Church is Ihe conduct of public worship and asso¢iat¢d
Inatter5 in the context of local congregations.
Dating from 1843 but with its roots in the Refomiation, the Free Church of ScotlaDd owes kts
distinctive titl¢ to its historical struggle to remain 'free' from state interference in its internal
affairs. It has close and active relations with many other R¢fortned churches of Jesus Chri%t
throughout the world and stands firnily in thc tradition which accepts thc Bible 7n its entirety as
the Word of God and, therefore. derives ils fonns of teaching. worship, ministry and government
from it. The maiii emphasis of our worship is the preaching of th¢ gospel - the good news of a free
and sovereign salvation through Jesus Clrist alone.
The congregation is authorised by the Church to have a Minister and an assistant Minister paid
from central funds ot the Church.
The church building and ihe minister's manse are held by St Columba's Free Church, Edinbui'gh,
undcr the Church's model t￿st d¢¢d but are in the process of b¢ing transferred into the name of
Cornerstone Free Church.

Achievements & performance
During the year, the congregation met regularly for public worship and carried out various
activities in pursuit of the abovc slated aims.
Thc congregalion continued its commitment lo support the National Free Church ofscoiland both
spiritually hnd financially.
Signifjcant highlights, events and developments of not¢ in th¢ year include ihe following:

Continued to setve local families through Momingside Minis, a pareut and toddler group
Pi"ovided opportunities for people to gather to discuss faith and belief
Partnered wkth the Wayfarer Trust to support Christians in the arts and creative endeavours
Sunday Seniices coiitinued at George Walsoij's College throughout 2024 to accommodale
growing numbers.
In relalion to congregational funding=
A growth in donations from church mernbers via weekly offerings and Gift Aid donalions.
Incr¢as¢d parlicipation by church members in th¢ Gifi Aid sclienie.
Financi41 Review
Inconie and expenditure both increased this ycar. Overall there was a surplus of £42,392 (2023..
£70,409) for the period. Unrestricted funds at the year end were £78,629 (2023: £17.340).
Restricted funds, held for the purposes detailed in note 14. were £34,172 (2023: £53,069) at the
end of th¢ y¢ar.
Reserves polic) and going concern
The trustees are working to develop a saEisfactory level of reserves to be retained by the charity.
ThcTe is no fornial reserves poltcy approved by Trustces but unrestricted net curr¢nt ass¢ts at year-
end were £72,008 (2023: £9.805), which would equate to more than ihree months of unrestricted
expenditure.

Risk Management
The Tnlstees are responsible for assessing the risks to which the Con￿egatIon is exposcd on an
ongoing basis and for pcriodically updating and reviewing it. The Truslecs asscss Ihc risk in
relation to health and.%afety in line with the requii-ements of the FCOS central chui'ch. The Tn]stees
seek lo idcntify ai)d addrcss ihe material ri5k5 facing the congregalion and agree measures aiined
at mitigating these risk8.
Plans for future periods
We continue to pursue opportunities to expand Qui ministry.. $￿cIficallY by establishing a church
plallt in the Gilmertoii area. This inktiativ¢ will b¢ driven by cxisting ineinbers residing in
CFilmerton and will aim to build a strong community pre8ence. Furthem]ore, we are dedicated to
fosleriug (be growth of our Spanish-speaking congr¢galion. To facilitate these endeavours and
further our mission of sharing Jesus, we intend to utilize the old schoolhouse. This space will serve
as a hub for both Christian and local cornmunity groups. providing support and resources to th¢
wider community.
We ure looking to assist in establishing two church plants in the Edinburgh area, using the
experience we have gain¢d over r¢ccnt years. We aim lo continu¢ the ¢ongregalion's current
activities and develop further olltr¢ach with students and young workers and to play a lekding role
in the promolion of Biblical Counsclling wiihin Ihc cliurch and the wider denomination. Wc will
continue developing ourpartner,qhip with Wayfarer TTUSt to sustain artists and promote the creative
arts.

Cornerstone Free ChurLh of Scotland is established by Constitution. It is a registered Scottish
Charity (No. SC052057}, re&iistered on I l October 2022.

The congregation 15 governed and administered by elected office bearers (all volunteeTS) and its
minister. assistant minisler and church plaDl¢r. Th¢ Kirk Session, b¢tng th¢ miiiisler, assislanl
vnini5ter, church planter and elected elders. has responsibility for spiritual oversight, iyhile the
Deacons, Court, composed of Kirk Session members plus elected deacons, oversees financial and
property inatters. Under Charity Law, tbe Deacons. Court are deemed to be the trustees of the
cougregation as those with responsibility for day-lo-day managcmcnt and Lonirol. This is distinct
from the role of property (congregational) trustees who are responsible only for holding property
in trusl.

Appointment of Charitv Trustees
The Kirk Session exercises its discretioii in detern]ining the most appropriate method of electing
new Trnstecs (Lldeis and DeaLons}. Any election process must involve th¢ coinmunicant
membership of the congregalion. There is no fixed terni for Tn￿te¢shlp. Prior to their
appoinlmenl, new Trustees would have served the Church for some time in various roles and would
b¢ familiar with the Church's N'alues, its aim5 and objcctivcs as wcll as its day-to-day opcrations.
As part of their induLtion pro¥yiÈUlltn¢, new Truste¢s are required to undersiand their sldtutory
responsibilities as well as th¢ rcsponsibilittes of their office within the congregation as elder or
deacon.

The charity's (rustces are responsibl¢ for thc prcparation of the accounts in accordance with the
tern]s of the Charities and Trustee Investment (SLQtlandl Act 2005 and the charitt.es Accounts
(Scolland) Regulalions 2006 (as amended). The Ch￿lty trnsiees consider Ihat the audil requiremeiit
of Re.twlation 10(1) (a) lo (c) of rhe 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is iny
responsibility lo examine the a¢¢ounts as required under section 44{1) (c) of the Act and to state
whether particular matters have coine to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's statement
My ex4unillation is Larried out in accordanLe with Regulation 11 of thc 2006 ALcounts
Regulations. An examination iiicludes a review of the accounting records k¢pt by tbe charity and
a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It aLso includes consideration of any
unusual items or disclosures in lh¢ accounts, and s¢¢ks ¢xplw)alions from th£ trustees concerning
any such matteT5. The procedures undertaken do not pr()vide all the evidence that would be
required in an audit. and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the vicw given by thc
