Structure, Governance & Management
Governing Document:
The John Preston Trust was recognised as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) on the 6" October 2022
Trustee Recruitment & Appointment:
At each AGM, the members may elect any member (unless he/she is debarred from membership under clause 16 of the Constitution) to be a charity trustee. One third of the charity trustees elected/appointed shall retire from office, but shall then be eligible for reelection.
A charity trustee retiring at an AGM will be deemed to have been re-elected unless: -
-
he/she advises the board prior to the conclusion of the AGM that he/she does not wish to be re-appointed as a charity trustee; or
-
- anelection process was held at the AGM and he/she was not among those elected/reelected through that process; or
-
- aresolution for the re-election of that charity trustee was put to the AGM and was not carried.
Objectives & Activities
The Charities Charitable Purpose:
As set out in the ‘Constitution’ and ‘The Charities and Trustee Investments (Scotland) Act 2005’ the purpose(s) of The John Preston Trust SCIO are the following: -

e the advancement of public participation in sport
Any other purpose that may reasonably be regarded as analogous to any of the preceding purposes.

The John Preston Trust is a charitable organisation set up in memory of the late John Preston by his wife MM to offer financial assistance to young artists and musicians between the ages of 16 and 30, resident in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

The Trust invited applications from March 2024 with a closing date of May 31°' 2024, from applicant's resident in Edinburgh and West Lothian.

In that period, we received 6 applications. Two of those were considered to be unsuitable by
the trustees. The following Applicants were successful:

A second funding round was opened on 1*' September 2024 with a closing date of November 30" 2024. This round was open to applicants from Edinburgh and the Lothians. This round attracted 10 applications. The trustees approved the following 7 applicants:

Achievement & Performance cont’d
Work undertaken by the Trust in this financial year includes:
- Finalising the application process to ensure the Trust acts with due diligence.
“ Establishing a Mailchimp account for the distribution of information to the schools, youth organisations and further education establishments in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Designing and printing leaflets to distribute to libraries, recording studios, music and art shops and other organisations where our potential audience are likely to see them.

Setting up an Instagram and Facebook presence

Administration of payments to the successful applicants according to the staged payment formula set out in the Terms and Conditions of accepting an award.

Maintaining contact with our awardees to ensure that they are using their funding in accordance with the requirements of the trust.

Administering the Trust in accordance with the requirements of OSCR.
The Trustees are confident that the first two funding rounds have been carried out in accordance with our initial aims and objectives and that everything has been done to ensure the ongoing success of the Trust and its ability to grow and build on this success.

Financial Review
Statement of Reserves Policy:
The Board of the John Preston Trust have resolved that a sum of £2,000 shall be retained and held in reserve at all times to meet emergencies or unforeseen calls on funds. The level of reserves will be subject to annual review at the JPT's AGM.
Details of any deficit:
There was no financial deficit this year.
Details of Donated Facilities & Services:
The Charity benefits from the time given by all the Trustees to the running of the Charity.
Statement of Trustees Responsibilities
The members of the Charity must prepare financial statements which give sufficient detail to enable an appreciation of the transactions of the Charity during the financial year. The members of the Charity are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which, on request, must reflect the financial position of the Charity at that time. This must be done to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006.
They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and must take reasonable steps for the prevention and/or detection of fraud and other irregularities.
