Financial Revlew
Resgrve$ Pollcy
The total unrestricted funds at 30 September were £8412023.. £8,894).
Review of Flnancial Year
The receipts and payments account at page 2 of the accounts shows a deficit of £8.810 12023 - surplus
£8,894). An analysis of reslricled and unrestricted funds is shown on page 4 01 the accounts.
A conlra¢t has been secured with SAHSCP from March 2024 which has secured a regular fixed monthly
payment of £175 per week bring in an annual intome of £8,400 to the charity.
A relationship has been fostered with a local charty. Beautiful Inside and Out. who financialty support a client
to receive therapeutic support. This brings in an addition £200 per month.
We have had no further funding despite Iwo applications being submitted and both refused. No feedback
was provided to the reason why other than over subscription in funding. We have since contacted the
funding offi￿r from South Ayrshire Council and we are now signed up to any funding options through an
alert system. This has resulted in several funds that we are applicable to apply loo although the closing dates
are often very tight which means we must be checking email on a regular basis. The focus will be on funds
that support us with our current client group, ie mental health, young people, trauma. relab'onships.
marginalised groups and female led business. SAHSCP have been contacted lo scope areas of work that
are required lo potentially provtde letters of support alongside the funding applicatson. We do not want lo
expand lo a different demographic given we do not have additK)nal staff lo support this, and we are keen lo
stick to our charitable purpose. Financial records are attached to provide a more details breakdown of how
the funds have been used over the course of a year. Insurance has been secured for another year al the
preexisling cost of18St year.
Ob
ectives and Activities
Day to day.,
This is essentially feeding and mainlaining the horses to ensuie they are cared foi lo allow them lo be in the
best possible health. A healthy horse that has ils needs mel. equals a happy. calm horse which is essential
when working with children and families. Their care must be at a high standard in lems of nutrition bul also
in respect of their environment and living condilions. This supports the horses and Creates a safe calm and
clean environment for those accessing the charity. We use our funds to cover the ¢05ts that comes with
running a yard of 8 horses. Costs ale for feeding, bedding and supplementslvilamins. We have additional
equipment for children which include5 hats and jackets although mosl young people prefer lo use their own.
In winter we spend approximatety 3 hours per day, cleaning stables. feeding and looking after the horses,
this reduces lo an hour and a half in summer when mosl horses live outs￿e. The cost lo maintaining the
horses comes at no cost lo the charity, wth all labour being provided.
Who we support:
The young people and families who attend are predominately neurodNergent and struggling in mainstream
school or in society in general. They find rt difficL¢lt to inlegrate and uncomfortable with people. The horses
provide a safe way to learn, calrn. socialtze and build family dynamics. The referrals are related to PTSD,
anxiety, social isolation. school refusal and neurodivergence. We have a similar target gfOUP accessing the
service and that is one where young people and children are struggling With their mental health and
wellbeing lo the extent rt is impacting their INes and their abil￿ to thrive. We address lols of low self-
confidence and poor self-esteem. Chiklren are often stnjggling at school and are not able to sustain this on a
full-time basis. We use the horses to help them to connect to something and then we begin to use the horses
lo help them understand thoughts, feelings, impact of &￿t￿nS and behaviour. Our horses are a family herd
of Clydesdales which allows us to use different ages of horses to teach life lessons. All things in their life can
be related and translated through the horses which makes it easier to address. The horses are safe and
don't expeel anything in return which allows the child to relax and tegin the process of connection and
healing.

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2024
My background is social work wtth a specialisl in trauma allow5 me to interweave my knowledge with that of
the horses. All the horses have been bom and bfed ￿th me which enables me to use their stories lo match
the child. Wth parents we leach them how to understand their child and they build their relationships with
each other through connecting and caring for the horses. Many of the children are neurodiver9ent which
means they have ADHD, autism. dyspraxia. dyslexia lo name a few. They tend to find bein9 Wrth people
Irfr￿Ult but find the horses safe.
Horses are flight animals, and their natural behaviours can be like chiklren, to run when triggered. We can
use this lo help the child understand their own behaviours and incorporate strategies to help them calm and
relax. The horses can offer a calming Pfesence that the chiklren feel safe lo connect too. None of the horses
are ridden and all the WQTk that tskes place is on the ground. We don't force the horse to work but allow the
horses and person lo connect naturally. This ensures the horses are not forced to work and will naturally
connect when ready. 11 also allows the person to become aware of themselves as the ho￿eS don't tend to
connect when they sense anxiety in the Ferson. It offers the ffirst opportunty to become self-aware and lo
regulate emotions.
We are currently Working with 4 young people and one family of 4 on a weekly basis. We tend to work over a
2-hour session and families generalty as with us for 6 months Of more. Some peop￿ access the service over
a shorter period and move on when they are ready. We do not provide timescales on those attending unless
irs a group as this allows the families to access support for as long as they need. Our hope is with funding
we call continue all year round which wll increase our eapaaty and support requests from the public.
We believe we can support 24 indwiduals with additional funding ensuring all requested are supported. We
collate information on a quarterty basis and feedback to the local authonty. providing assessment on each
child and family and their time in the charity. This will allow us to hold information and data over the year to
assess the effectNeness of the support and address areas of improvement or expand on Ihe areas where
are working well.

Future Plans
We have had some discussion with the SAHSCP regarding a three-year conlrxl from 2025 although this
has not been confirmed. We have a few dients on the wathng list that are loo￿"n9 to access the Calm
Clydesdale, and we also can discuss redueing the age of refeffals to children and young people accessing
the service. This will be open to discussion. Regarding the funding we receive will determine the next steps
Tegarding groups atthough l am keen to continue wilh the saft￿ demographic. We are keen to subsidies
charities and the public to enable them to access the supports which will l￿ affordable. c￿er springlsummer
2024 we received 24 reqL¢esls that were not taken up from the public for thera￿UllC supports due to a cost
being involved. The grant will allow us to meet these requests in 2025
We have re￿ntlY secured our own land 26.6 acers in East Ayrshire on an old farm. There 15 no building
apart from stables however there is electriryty. water, septic tank and planning perniission for a home.
This will provide us our first opportunity lo grow the chartty and branch out in the way we had afv4ay5
envisioned. We are keen to make Connectiot￿ with the two k)cal primary schools and hopefully foster a
relationship where we can support pupils. This coukl be in the form of groupwofk and indwiduals. We are
excited lo grow our ideas and serve this local isolated deprived community.
