Trustees, Annual Report Year ended 31 October 2024 Structure, Governance and Management Governlng document The Associalion is administered in accordance wtth the terms of its Deed of Conslttution. Re¢rultment and Appointment of Trustees The charity trustees a￿ drawn from the members of the Management Committee. Members of the Management Committee are appointed at the Annual General Meeting. The Commodore and Vice Commod0￿ are elected for years. retiring on altemate years. All other members of the Management Committee are elected annualty. Organisational structure The Association is managed by the Management Commitlee which meets ￿ or three limes per year, with additional meetings as required. Obje¢tlves and Activities The Association's objectives are.. lal the advancement of education by transferring skills and knowledge of maintaining and sailing existing Orkney yoles. one of Orkney's traditional sailing vessels and, when possible, of constructing sailing yoles.. (b) the advan￿ment of the arts. heritage, culture and science by making the traditional uses of Orkney yoles as cargo. fishing and transport vessels known; and (c) the advan￿ment of publ￿ participation in sport by promoting the active use of Orkney yoles as sailing vessels. Its primary activities in the furtherance of these objectives are.. arranging for Stromness and North Walls Primary Schoob. P7 classes to be given a taster session in Orkney Yoles in the summer tern.. organising weeknight sailing from the Stromness Marina from May to September for members and interested members of Ihe public: two yoles. including the OYA yole. sailing from the OYA Flaws pierlsailhouse, where il also holds a public sail day and barbeque- Participation in regattas organised throughout Orkney in the summer, and over the winter it also organises social evenings with a Yole-￿18ted theme. Achievements and Perforniance Poor weather at the start of the year meant that the yole sailing did not get underway until the end of May. Earlier. volunteers had repainted and made minor ￿paIrS to the club boat ' Lity" We encouraged some folks new to sailing to experience a sail in a yole by holding a "Come for a sail" day on Saturday 1 st June. after having stimulated interest by placing an Page3of9

The P7 sailing was poSt￿ned due to pctjr weather and then cancelled on the rearranged date due lo many of the boat's crews attending the fun￿al of a well known local fisherman. Yoles participated in the Hotm and Stromness regattas bul unfortunatety slcfmy weather forced the cancellatK)n ol regatta in Longhope. We held regular sailing evenirKJs throughout the summer rnonths but sadty several dates had lo bg cancelled b￿￿Se there w88 either too much or too lrttle wind. Financial Review The As50cialion raised a lolal of £1,595 from a week in the Blue Door in November 2023 which provided a welcoffe boost to funds and resulted in a surplus for Ihe year of £1.396. Ouigoings were reduced following the end of the lease of Flaws Pier in May 2024. It is the Tiuslees. pdtcy to maintain sufficient reserves to cover arproximalely six months expenditure on a nomial basis. As of 31 October 2024, the General fund was more than sufficient lo cover this. During the year, the trustees transferred £1.387 from the restric1& fund for the SailhouselFlaws pier to cover off expenditure incurred on upkeep in prior years. as Association vacated these premises in May 2024. Following the vacation of Flaws Pier. the Association successfully applied for a berth for the Lily in the marina and paid a berth deposit and berth fees for 2024 tolalling £1.546 in December 2024. Transfer to a SCIO Orkney Yole Association SCIO SC051899 was fonned on 1 August 2022 with the intentlon that the activities, assets and liabiltlies of Orkney Yore ASs(￿latIon SC048254 be iransferred into il as soon as possible. This was delayed for some considerable time due lo difftulties in setting up a new bank account. The tNslees are pleased to report that this has now happened. Respective responsibillties of trustee and examiner The charity's trustees are resp)nsible for Ihe preparation of the 8Ctounls in ac￿rdanCe With the terms of the CharitEs and Trustee Investmenl (ScotLand) 2005 Act and the Charities Accounls (Scotland) Regulations 2006. Basis of independent examlnofs Statoment My exJnlnation is carried out in accordan¢e with Regulation 11 of tha Charities Accounts {Scdlandl Regulations 2006. An exatninatpJn includes a review of the aGcounting records kept by the charily and a comparison of the accounts presenled v4ith those records. It also includes Conside￿tIon of any unusual iteff6 or disckjsures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees conceming any suth maters.
