## **Trustees Report**
The Trustees of Renfrew Burgh Band (herein after referred to as “the Band”) present their report along with financial statements for the period 1 December 2024 to 30 November 2025. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out on page 7 and comply with the charity’s constitution and applicable law.
## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE and MANAGEMENT**
Renfrew Burgh Band is a charitable unincorporated association and the purposes and administration arrangements are set out in our constitution.
The committee members or Trustees, who are appointed at the Annual General Meeting, for the year and since are set out on page 1. The committee meets regularly to monitor, evaluate and control the band. Members thereof do not receive remuneration and are assisted by an enthusiastic group of volunteers.
## **OBJECTIVES and ACTIVITIES**
The Band’s objective is to advance the education of people of all ethnic origins in music and in particular brass music. This is done though provision of facilities, instruments and necessary equipment as to facilitate the learning and playing of music. This preserves history and tradition dating back over 100 years. Additionally, to participate actively and be an effective influence in the cultural activities within the Renfrewshire community and surrounding area.
## **ACHIEVEMENTS and PERFORMANCE**
## Contesting
The year 2025 was one which saw some excellent contesting success, with fine performances duly recognised in the results tables. A win in the Third Section at the Scottish Championships was a great start to the year, along with a Best Instrumentalist award for the band’s flugel horn player.
The top-six finish at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, amid a tough field, was very respectable, and the band rounded off its contesting year in excellent fashion as overall winner of the Borders Entertainment Contest, also taking home the award for Best Third Section Band, with the band’s principal cornet player winning awards for Best Instrumentalist and Best Principal Cornet.
Success at these contests was a considerable achievement.
## Concerts
The band held a summer concert in Renfrew Town Hall, joined by a special guest artist in the form of renowned tenor horn star, Sheona White.
Concerts were also held in Langbank and Neilston Parish Church.
## Community Engagement
The Band enjoyed several fine examples of community engagement in 2025 from Renfrew Gala Day to Remembrance Sunday, a carol service in Renfrew Town Hall, carol playing in the community and hosting a pensioners’ lunch for residents of Renfrew and the wider Renfrewshire area.

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**
## Fundraising Performance
Raising financial support continues to be challenging and support that was enjoyed this year may not necessarily be available next year. Additional fundraising activity was undertaken this year to fund attendance and performance at the 2025 National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain in Cheltenham.
## Investment Performance
The Band has no investment strategy requirement and any funds are held in a Bank Account up to the bank guarantee limit. This will be reviewed by the Trustees from time to time.
## Operating Results
The activities, including financial support from the Band’s members, grant funding and other fundraising, show a surplus of £2,398 (2024 deficit £914).

## **Independent Examiner’s Report on the Accounts**
I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 30 November 2025 which are set out on pages 5 – 8.
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of Independent examiner’s report**
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
## **Independent examiner’s statement**
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
- (1) Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
- To keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations; and
- To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations
Have not been met; or
- (2) To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **ASSETS**
The band owns a stock of musical instruments and associated accessories which are made available to members who do not possess their own. This supports wider participation and ensures accessibility to all. Many of these have been owned since the 1980s and as such, historic cost information is not available. It is hoped to review and amend the financial information periodically going forwards as instruments reach the end of their useful economic life and are replaced. In the meantime, a value of £nil has been recorded.

## **Unrestricted funds**
Unrestricted funds are fundraising, donations and members subscriptions received or generated for expenditure on the general objectives of the Band.
## **Restricted funds**
Restricted funds are funds subject to specific conditions imposed by the donor. These funds are only used for the specific purposes for which they were given.
## **Members Subscriptions**
Membership is open to anyone wishing to play in the band. The membership charges are £25 per month; with a concession rate of £20 per month for students.
## **Expenditure**
Expenditure is summarised under functional headings. The irrecoverable VAT is included with the item of expense to which it relates.

## **Renfrewshire Common Good**
This funding was awarded to help bring music to all in the community.
It has been used to purchase percussion instruments for use at concerts and summer performances where the band is engaging with the public. Spend on this was £323.77 in the year to 30 November 2025. There were plans in place to order additional percussion instruments, but this unfortunately had to be cancelled due to excessive delivery dates which were beyond the terms of the funding time limits.
## **National Lottery**
This grant was awarded to the band for Community Projects.
Funding was used to support the cost of organising a concert in Renfrew Town Hall in June 2025 with a prominent guest artist from the brass band world. The concert was open to all within the community and beyond with no cost to attend. The spend on this project was £1,247.00.
There was also spend of £165.12 on the organisation of Pensioner’s Lunch for residents of Renfrew and the wider Renfrewshire area. Further expenditure for this event will be incurred in the following financial year.
Approval is sought from the National Lottery for the balance of funding to be used in the next financial year.
