Trustees Annual Report February 2025
Broomhouse Community Hall SCIO SC051731
WHY was our Charity set up?
Our charity was created in May 2022. A group of local Broomhouse residents volunteered to create a new group to manage the local Hall which was under threat from closure due to the collapse of the previous Hall committee.
However, when applying for the licence to manage the Hall, it became apparent that a rival bid had been submitted by a local private nursery business who were granted the Licence by Glasgow City Council to operate the Hall and have done so ever since.
Instead, the Charity have provided activities at the Hall inkeeping with our purpose to improve the conditions of life for the inhabitants of Broomhouse.
WHO does our Charity help?
Broomhouse Community Hall SCIO helps local residents of all ages and backgrounds by providing a range of community events for everyone to enjoy.

WHAT was Achieved- OUTCOMES
We have now operated almost three years as a charity. We have a strong committee of 8 members which has increased from the previous years 7The community have provided favourable feedback, personal thanks has been conveyed and local councillors have also been appreciative of our work. There are no other charities in operation in the direct area where we are based and therefore we find that the community has been really supportive to our committee by taking part in the events we have organised, this is also reflected in the recent funding won from the Coop which was as a result of 452 local community members voting for us in a storewide competition.
What difference was made – IMPACT
As a very small charity made up of a board of full time working mums who carry out the charity work voluntarily, we do not have the tools to carry out in depth analytical reports. However, we have a Facebook page which is our main tool for carrying out online advertising and engagement with our community. Currrently our page – Broomhouse Community Hall – Community Group (https://facebook.com/profile.php/?id=100081711326862) has 629 followers, an increase of 121 from the previous years 508 followers. We have found this to be a great way to connect with each other to share ideas and information. The Messenger service also allows users to contact us direct for any questions or suggestions.
On the whole, we have found the work we have done to be effective in creating more of a community vibe in this area of Glasgow following years of intensive housebuilding and no new social or sports provision alongside the developments.
Our biggest challenge is keeping the committee up and running with a strong membership of volunteers. Unfortunately our numbers dwindled in 2024 from 12 to 8, this has made it more difficult to deliver the community events which are extremely popular and require Committee members to be involved in providing a safe and well managed environment for the activities to take place. The number of committee members at this year’s coming AGM in June will indicate whether a full Family Fun day can take place this year or whether we change direction to providing smaller events controlled by prior ticketing.
