Structure, governance and management

Charity management organisation

Grove Menzieshill Hockey Club SCO51708 is governed by its constitution which outlines how the charity is run. Trustees are elected or re-elected annually at the AGM. The charity is organised so that the Board of Trustees meets regularly to manage charity affairs and govern the charity responsibly. Day to day running of the Hockey Club is delegated to an Executive Committee who also meet regularly, review all policies and provide operating reports to the Trustees. Trustees provide strategic direction and assist in various groups where delegated policies and organisation cover areas of hockey performance, finance, safeguarding and wellbeing, communications, grants, sponsorship and fundraising,

The primary objective of the club is to increase participation in the sport of hockey within the Dundee area. Further progress has been made in achieving this objective. The club actively raises funds to support this.

Youth Indoor Hockey Training session

Our volunteers have coached a hockey session each week of the scholastic year in four Dundee primary schools that then allows pupils progressing to enjoy hockey sessions offered at Grove Academy. The club arranged individual instruction sessions to enable several Teachers from these primary schools to increase hockey participation and improve active fun hockey experiences for their school pupils. The club coaching volunteers also hosted four hockey camps available for children during each school holiday break. Children have enjoyed these school hockey experiences and several have been welcomed as new club youth members.

Reserves policy

The policy of the Charity is that unrestricted funds which have not been designated for a specific use should be maintained at a level equivalent to between three and six month’s expenditure. The Trustees consider that maintaining reserves at this level will ensure that, in the event of a significant drop in funding, they will be able to continue the Charity’s current activities while consideration is given to ways in which additional funds may be raised.

Continued steps in delivering this have been made due to this year’s financial performance. While the reserves have decreased by £3,646 in the year, it is the intention to build further reserves year on year until the target level is met.
