## **REPORT OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DEC 2024** 

The Board of Trustees presents its annual report and financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31[st] December 2024. The financial statements have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis and comply with the Charities Account (Scotland) Regulations 2006 and the Statement of Recommended Practise: Accounting and Reporting by Charities published in 2005. 

Scottish Football for Rwanda is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), registered in Scotland by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) under number SCO51705. 

Scottish Football for Rwanda is mainly a children’s charity, dedicated to: 

- Furthering public participation in sport, namely football; and 

- The relief of those in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. 

We help children in Rwanda by encouraging and facilitating football through our Scottish volunteers and our football network in Rwanda, and also as a grant-making charity. 

## **Background** 

Scottish Football for Rwanda was founded as a registered charity (SCIO) to make an even greater impact than the good work that previous, more informal trips to Rwanda had achieved. 

## **Organisational Structure** 

The structure of the organisation consists of the charity’s Trustees, who are also the organisation’s members and Board members.

The Board meets at least 4 times a year and receives regular updates from the Chief Executive Officer.

## **Objectives and activities** 

The organisation’s purposes: 

- Furthering public participation in sport, namely football; and 

- The relief of those in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. 

The main charitable activity of the organisation is to organise regular trips to Rwanda, during which our volunteers (Scottish youth football players and coaches) plan and deliver football sessions for children of all age, ability, gender and background. 

Fundraising is mainly done by our volunteers, who not only donate a minimum amount to enable each trip to cover their costs, but also additional donations that are then distributed between the organisations we support in Rwanda – schools, ex-street children centers, community groups and other support organisations. 

## **Financial Review** 

Most of the revenue in the financial year was related to the trip in November 2024, whilst the costs related to two trips; February and November 2024. 

Total income for the year was £65,253 (2023: £15,213), including £2,000 of restricted funds (2023: £1,100). Payments relating directly to charitable activities for the year was £29,262 (2023: £8,187). Grants and donations for the year was £17,030 (2023: £6,000). 

At 31[st] December 2024, the organisation had total net assets of £28,924 (2023: £10,714), of which £26,924 is unrestricted funds (2023: £10,714). 

This balance carried forward provides the organisation with security to continue as a going concern. 

## **Risks and Uncertainty** 

The Board regularly review the risks to which the charity is exposed and are satisfied that the appropriate processes are in place to mitigate these risks.

## **Trustee Appointments** 

Scottish Football for Rwanda has a small Board that offers a wide range of skills and experiences to the charity. Trustees with the appropriate experience are invited to join the Board and follow the guidance of Charity Trustees provided by OSCR, which sets out the duties and responsibilities of charity trustees in Scotland. 

At the time of this report the Trustees are: 

Scottish Football for Rwanda is governed in accordance with its constitution which is carefully drafted to reflect the aims of the charity and its activities. 

## **Future plans of the charity** 

The current aim is to deliver three trips per year to Rwanda, to develop relationships with football clubs in Scotland and Rwanda, and to make significant funding donations. 

## **Volunteers** 

The Board of Trustees are all volunteers and receive no expenses, other than reimbursement of approved administration costs paid on behalf of the charity. 

## **Grants** 

During the year, the charity made numerous grants and donations, including a further £11,200 to Good News International, to continue the building development of the football pitch in the village of Bisesero. Total donations to this project now stands at £17,200. The charity also donated £3,562 as a contribution towards coaching qualifications at Dream Team.

## **NOTES TO THE ACCOUNTS** 

## **(1) Accounting Policies** 

These accounts have been prepared on a Receipts and Payments basis in accordance with the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended) 

Scottish Football for Rwanda’s Reserves Policy is to maintain a sufficient level of reserves to enable normal operating activities to continue in the forthcoming year, namely flight deposits for the next trip, and to take account of potential risks and contingencies that may arise from time to time. 

## **(2) Funds** 

## **Unrestricted Funds** 

Unrestricted funds are to be used (a) in the operational running of the charity, namely future trips and (b) to provide donations and grants. 

## **Restricted Funds** 

At the end of the year, restricted funds totalled £2,000. The purpose of the restricted fund is to partfund the new pitch development at Batsinda. 

## **(3) Grants** 

During the year, the charity made one significant grant of £11,200 to Good News International, to fund the building of a football pitch at Bisesero. 

## **(4) Trustee expenses and remuneration policy** 

No renumeration or expenses are paid to the Board of Trustees, other than the reimbursement of approved administration costs paid on behalf of the charity and repayment of loans made to the charity. 

## **(5) Related Party Disclosure** 

There were no related party transactions in the years to 31 December 2023 and 2024.
