Other optional information 2024 was our second full year operatlng as a Charlty (SCIO). In 2024 we attended 6 communlty related events. These conslsted of 4 local Authorlty Ymter safety events, a missings persons conference and a Scottish Parliament event. We attended 8 meetings (nol including the regular water safety meetings delailed above). We provided a safety service at 4 organised open water events. Normally. pre-pandemic. this figure is higher. but many event organisers are still recovering from restrictions and event attendance has also not fully recovered as yet. Open Water Rescue is registered on the Scottish Community Asset Register and as such can be deployed to any wateThvay in the Greater Glasgow Region (comprising of Glasgow City Council and the immediate 6 surrounding local authorities) by various agencies including Police Scotland. Scottish Fire & Rescue Service. Scottish Ambulance Service. National and local authorities. various Government Agencies and community groups. Our Volunteers can carry out various tasks including missing person searches. safety assessments of waterways and attend major incidents as deployed by the various agencies. In 2024. there were I9 accidental drowning fatalities across the UK. according to the National Water Safety Forum (NWSF). May saw the highest number of fatalities. wilh 28" lives lost. according to the STA. RLSS UK reports that 83%" of these fatalities were male. The data also indicates that 63%" of accidental drownings occurred at inland waters. Everyday activities like walking and Tunning accounied for 48%" of accidental fatalities. hese figures are Corre for year ending 2024.
