JGS Foundation (SCIO) Trustees’ Annual Report For the Year Ended 28 February 2025

The Trustees are pleased to present their report and the financial statements for the year to 28 February 2025.

Objectives & Activities

The charitable objects of the JGS Foundation (SCIO) (‘the Foundation’) are the advancement of health, education and public participation in sport, the organisation of recreational activities and the promotion of equality and diversity.

In furtherance of these aims, the principal activities of the Foundation will be the organisation and delivery of golf events and competitions for children and young people, and the provision of junior golf coaching for children and young people.

Achievements & Performance

During the period under review in this report, activities included running junior golf coaching sessions, primarily based in East Kilbride. The Trustees are grateful for the continued support of Golf East Kilbride Ltd for making facilities available for this coaching. The focus on running junior coaching sessions is to meet the objective of advancing education and participation of children and young people in sport. In addition, a series of golfing events were delivered throughout the year across Scotland. The running of events directly supports the purpose of organising recreational activities for children and young people to give them opportunities they may not otherwise have.

Future Plans

The Trustees are committed to continue growing the game in Scotland. The primary focus for the immediate future will be through more coaching activities. As the golf market continues to change and junior golfers are offered more and more opportunities to play in different events, JGS Foundation can act as more of a flagship for introducing juniors to the game at a learning level and take a step back temporarily from the events side of things.

Financial Review

Receipts of £5,370, consisting donations and income from running events, were used to support junior golfing events across Scotland. There were payments of £6,404 during the year, mostly direct costs of running junior golfing events and coaching camps, as well as awards and other expenses. There were net payments of £1,034, resulting in a balance of £41 being carried forward in unrestricted funds.

Reserves Policy

In the initial phase of development of the charity, no significant reserves have been built up. The Trustees will consider an appropriate reserves policy as the charity becomes fully operational in the future.

Structure, Governance & Management

JGS Foundation (SCIO) is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). The Trustees, who are also the members of the charity, have no liability in the event of the charity being wound up. Report of the Independent Examiner To the Trustees of JGS Foundation (SCIO)

I report on the accounts of the charity for the Year Ended 28 February 2025 which are set out on pages 5 to 7.

Respective responsibilities of Trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 (the 2005 Act) and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006, as amended.

The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the 2005 Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner's statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner's statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

  2. to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and

  3. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

have not been met, or

  1. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
