The Academy for African Studies is dedicated to advancing education, community growth, and cultural understanding about the African region. By providing access to educational materials and resources, the Academy helps communities build knowledge and fosters lifelong learning. It promotes equality and diversity by supporting inclusive activities that uplift underrepresented voices and drive meaningful community participation. The Academy also plays a key role in community development, offering training and re-training opportunities that deepen understanding of the African context. Through events that celebrate African heritage, history, and culture, we create spaces for reflection, pride, and unity. Additionally, to address poverty across the region, the Academy conducts and publishes research on its root causes and strategies for alleviation, providing critical insights that inform effective policy and action
Objectives: (a) To advance education within the African region by making materials or objects capable of educating available to the public, such as in libraries or on databases (b) To promote and coordinate activities that enhance equality and diversity (c) To advance citizenship or community development by providing education, training and re-training opportunities for members of the public about the African context. (d) To facilitate and organise events celebrating the African heritage, history and culture (e) To prevent and relief poverty within the African region by conducting research into the factors that contribute to poverty and the best ways to mitigate them (f) To advance education within the African region by undertaking academic research and publishing the results online, or in peer-reviewed journals
