## Objectives and activities 

This is the fourth report of the Bilbster and Thuster Hall SCIO. The old Bilbster and Thuster Hall committee was dissolved on 3" April 2023. 

The SCIO owns and manages Bilbster Hall to provide a venue for social activities in the Bilbster, Thuster and Haster area. The SCIO also organises social activities in the hall.

## Bilbster and Thuster Hall SCIO is governed by a constitution.

## Trustees are appointed at the Annual General Meeting. 

## Achievements and performance 

The children’s Halloween and Christmas parties and the Easter egg hunt were all very well attended. 

A Bilbster hall youth group for primary school age children has been established, and now meets one evening a month. A varied range of activities are provided for the children, and the children themselves contribute to deciding the programme of activities. Activities include indoor games and activities, and outdoor sports and a nature hunt. 

A hall sports and games fun day was held at Haster playing field. A range of races and other activities for primary age children were organised. The sports day was well attended and we plan to repeat this as a hall activity. 

The annual Burn’s supper was successful again. 

The craft group and sewing group have continued weekly in the hall. The hall has also been used for other lets including a trial messy play group for under 5s organised by Caithness Community Connections. and private lets for birthday and hen parties. A car boot sale and craft room de-stash was also held. 

We are still working on the plan to upgrade the existing toilets and include disabled toilets, but progress has been delayed by difficulty in arranging access for a new electricity cable. 

Thanks to everyone on the committee and other supporters for all their work over the last year. 

## Financial review 

This is the second year that the accounts are presented for the new accounting period, 01 January to 31 December. 

Income for the year was £6013.50, the major sources of income (in order of magnitude) were grants from the Tannach windfarm fund (£2291.00), regular craft and sewing group lets (£1652.00), Burns supper (£1316.50) and private lets (£442). 

Spending for the year was £3982.19, the major repeating spending items for the year were electricity (£1196.67) and insurance (£380.35). 

There is a surplus of £2031.31 on usual day-to-day income over expenditure. The year closed with a positive balance in the hall bank account of £19114.82. 

The hall is facing a large amount of expense in the replacement of the floor, justifying the size of the reserves. 

Statement of the charity’s policy on reserves 

It is appropriate for the SCIO to hold reserves of approximately £10000 to enable the hall to meet any maintenance or repair work that may be required.
