Charitable Purposes
The main purpose of the club is advancement of public participation in sport, the provision of recreational facilities, and the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended.
The objectives of the club are to promote and encourage public participation (not least juniors) in the game of tennis and other LTA sports in Edinburgh and the surrounding area, providing a safe and secure environment in which the public may play tennis and other LTA approved sports.
The club is on a sound financial footing with a healthy surplus being generated over the past year. This has allowed to rebuild the sinking fund and make further improvements to the grounds.
We have continued to grow in 2025 with 339 Tennis members, 160 Padel members, and 31 on the Padel waiting list.
The pay and play initiatives are proving very popular at both Tennis and Padel.
Structure and Management and Recruitment and Appointment of Trustees
The club is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) an incorporated body having charitable status under the Charities and Trustee Investment.
The club was established in April 1921 and successfully became a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) on 27[th] January 2022.
It is a two-tiered SCIO made up of charity trustees and other members, who appoint the charity trustees to manage and control the charity in accordance with the constitution dated 4 December 2021.

Trustee recruitment and appointment
In November 2025 the current Trustees were appointed from the existing committee that were managing the club.
Going forward at each AGM, the members may elect any full member to be a charity trustee. The proposed electee must be supported at the AGM by a further seconder.
A vote shall then be taken for each full member if deemed necessary. At each AGM, all of the charity trustees elected/appointed shall retire from office – but shall then be eligible for re-election.
A charity trustee retiring at an AGM will be deemed to have been re-elected unless, they advise the committee prior to the conclusion of the AGM that they do not wish to be reappointed as a charity trustee, or an election process was held at the AGM and they were not among those elected/re-elected through that process.
The committee may at any time appoint any member to be a charity trustee
Review of the Activities and Achievements
Padel
Padel court usage continues to grow with average usage up from 8.9 hours per day in 2024 to 12.2 hours per day in 2025
We now have 160 Padel only members and have a waiting list of 31.
We have continued to run 8 Americanos per week, which remains the most popular entry to Padel for new members, as well as providing opportunities for non-members to play, with 479 participants in the 4 Padel WhatsApp groups.
We have now run 9 Box Leagues, and staged the first Club Championships, an Open in September and a Women’s in October.
We entered men’s and women’s teams in the LTA Scottish Cup and 2 men’s teams in the National League. Coaching is proving popular and we now offer 7 group coaching sessions weekly, and have a dedicated slot on a Tuesday for the women’s team practice

TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT AND ACCOUNTS
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 OCTOBER 2025
Our tennis memberships continue to grow steadily and now stand at 339, the highest ever. Organised sessions such as Morning Ladies, Morning Mens, Saturday Social, and Mens and Ladies team practice continue to be well attended.
Our pay and play offering continues to be popular with non-members, and the TennisForFree sessions between March and October were well attended and resulted in several new players joining the club.
This year, we have reintroduced Adult Group Tennis Coaching sessions led by Charlie Grimson. These have been well attended and Charlie’s coaching style has received a lot of positive feedback.
Junior numbers attending coaching remain strong with sessions currently running for juniors on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. We currently offer 9 junior coaching sessions a week.
Some juniors are taking 1:1 lessons which is an excellent way to build on their weekly group coaching experience, and a few older juniors are now fully involved in adult team practices and matches, which is great to see.
We fielded 3 teams in the junior leagues this year giving players some valuable experience.
We ran one Easter and two summer junior tennis camps again this year, with good attendance numbers, and we continue to engage with local schools to encourage participation.
Adult Teams
Men’s first team – a 3[rd] successive 2[nd] place in Division 3. Came down to Dean beating us home and away. Look again to get the promotion we want next year. Ali Colver did a great job captaining this year.
Men’s second team – we finished 2[nd] place in a very close Division 4 and will also play Division 3 next season. Only Braid, Thistle and St Serfs have a 2[nd] team that high in the league.
Men’s third team – a tough season after promotion last year. Some good sets won but no points in the end. Thanks again to Alex Woods for captaining. Division 5 will be winnable next season.
Men’s fourth team – The guys amazingly finished 2[nd] in a really tough league and go up to Division 6 next season. No other club has a men’s 4[th] team in the leagues are that high up the divisions.
Men’s fifth team – We were able to arrange a handful of friendlies which everyone enjoyed and gave some fringe players / juniors some good match experience.
Stan Fletcher Cup – Another great tournament this year with Claire Edwardson and Aly Findlay winning in the end and an amazing £362 raised for St Columba’s.
The Club Closed Tournament produced first time winners of both the Men’s and Women’s singles with Ali Colver and Natalia Augustynski winning. Jeremy Tilman and Jakub Augustynski and Laura Martinez and Mongchee Chang won the doubles events. The closest final was won by father and daughter Jakub and Natalia Augustynski narrowly defeating mother and son combo Margaret and Sean Waitt. Watching the action closely was Willie Waitt who sadly passed away just 2 months later. Willie was on great form on finals day and loved being any part of a grand sporting occasion.
Inter-club singles – the men had a great run and were literally points away from reaching the semis. Youngsters Arsenii Opryshko and Ray Gallacher played superbly and old timers (!) Jeremy Tilman and Adam Ezzamel did not bad themselves. Watching Arsenii beat the Merchiston #1 player 6-0 6-0 was

incredible. Ray came so close to beating his former coach at Thistle also in the quarter finals – great performances from the juniors.
Mixed doubles Summer social league – We again fielded two teams with our A team just being pipped to 2[nd] place and our B team getting one win.
Vets leagues – our men’s first team were only beaten by a strong DL team in Div 1. The second team won Div 2 – setting up a grudge match which is already being hotly anticipated next season!!
National League – we featured in Div 2 (nationally!) this season and finished 3[rd] out of 7 teams.
Winter Cup Mixed doubles – we were pipped to the semis by set percentage only.
Pringle Cup – Alice Miller and Brian McLaren represented the club. They were still in the running until Brian suffered an unfortunate collision with a hidden concrete post!
Women’s Teams
Overall, it was a positive season for the women:
We regularly fielded 3 women’s teams, including many friendlies for a new 3rd team, with the 1st team being promoted to division 4, with some great performances and a fantastic run of form.
Over 30 women are part of our squad and regularly practicing. To engage players and help us improve we have organised the following over the past year: 2 practice sessions a week; a doubles box league; and doubles coaching programmes.
We have a very committed groups of 2s players and although they were relegated to division 9 last season, we believe that we have the strength, commitment and number of players to start building a way forward and upwards over the seasons to come. This will be consolidated by having a competitive 3rd team which we hope to field next season. The coaching and practice sessions really help with this.
We fielded 2 women’s vets teams. Both had been promoted last year but we didn’t have quite the consistency or availability this year, and both teams were unfortunately demoted.
Huge thanks to Liz Terry for captaining the 2s, Elaine Edwardson for organising and captaining the 3s, and to Audrey Lucatelli in helping to organise practices. Also, many thanks to Roberta Bergero for captaining and organising the vets teams. Thanks also to Charlie Grimson and Graeme Soutar for their support with the coaching.

General Improvements
The main development at the Club this past year has been the replacement of the perimeter fence of the tennis courts and installation of gates, to allow vehicle access for maintenance, and for easier retrieval of wayward tennis balls. Although now complete, the actual cost (~ £17.5K) will not register in the Club accounts until the next financial year.

Financial Review
The Padel court continues to be a great success with gross revenues for 2024/25 standing at £84,000 (compared to £61,000 for 2023/24). We made our first repayment (£8,500) of the £85K LTA 5-year interestfree Padel loan in April and a similar amount was paid in November. The loan will be paid off in 2029. Separately, twice-yearly payments of £1000 continue to the LTA; this represents the repayment of the interest-free loan from the LTA to finance the former floodlight installation. These payments will continue until end-2027.
Gross tennis subscriptions to the Club increased to £36,700 (£30,000 in 2023/24). As for the LED floodlight development, as at 31 Oct, the closing balance was £15,123. This represents the outstanding interest-free loan due to the Energy Savings Trust, repayable monthly until August 2031.
The major accounting event of 2025 was the closure, in May, of our current account with TSB. The closing balance was transferred to a new Community and Charity Account with the Cooperative Bank. As you would expect, there was considerable ‘red-tape’ to overcome in opening a new Charity bank account. As at 31 October 2025, our current account bank balance stood at £86,709. In addition, in the period MayAug 2025, we invested in 4 one-year fixed interest bonds to the value of £100,000 with 2 UK banks. Each £25K Bond is yielding a guaranteed interest rate of just over 4% pa. Two of the bonds are reinvestments from maturing 2024 Bonds which yielded a total interest payment of £2571. The surplus for the financial year 2024/25 was £82,940 compared to a surplus of £53,723 for 2023/24. The healthy state of Club finances lays a sound foundation for future improvement and re-surfacing of the tennis courts, and other projects.
We continue to engage Sportex to undertake the Deep Clean of the courts around every 6 months; also further funds are allocated to spread moss-killer when necessary. Basic cost is £684 per visit. This month Sportex also facilitated the net-post remedial work on Court 4. We will be stepping up tennis court maintenance in 2026, more than likely leading to a ‘re-generation’ of all 4 courts at end-2026. This is a major project and is intended to extend the life of the courts by at least 5 years (last re-surfaced in 2015). Besides the costs mentioned above, further items that warranted significant expenditure were new fencing, landscaping and paving slabs (£3,750), electricity consumption (£5,300), tennis/padel balls & equipment/ball-machine balls & repairs (£4,000), admin fees for online collection of tennis & padel subscriptions/fees (£4,500) and water-resistant sealing of the Padel court perimeter (£2,200).
Finally, in early-2025, we completed our second full year Trustees Report & Accounts (for the period 1 Nov 2023 -31 Oct 2024). These were passed to an independent examiner for scrutiny and sign-off in accordance with the prescribed Charity regulations. Subsequently an online annual return was made to OSCR, our regulator.
Risk Management
The trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed, in particular those relating to the operations and finances of the charity, and are satisfied that systems are in place to mitigate the charity’s exposure to the major risks.
Policy on Reserves
At 31[st] October 2025 unrestricted reserves totalled £186,709 (2024 £103,769). In accordance with the constitution, reserves are held to ensure the ongoing maintenance of the club facilities. The Trustees have set a target of contributing £12,000 per annum into a sink fund. This fund will be used for major infrastructure projects such as court resurfacing, floodlight replacement, or significant improvements to the clubhouse/ grounds/Padel Court. This decision is reviewed annually.

Future plans
The main initiative in 2026 is to continue to grow participation in racket sports, and we have started a project to investigate if we can expand our Padel facilities.
We will be running programmes to encourage more girls to play tennis, and to introduce juniors to Padel working with local schools and youth groups.
We will look to grow our tennis membership especially the juniors, whilst building on the Tennis For Free, Pay and Play, and LTA Youth initiative’s to encourage the wider community to participate in racket sports.
