Bay of Hope was established as a charity on 26th January 2022, working closely with their Ugandan sister organisation, Bay of Hope International Ltd since then, to deliver life-changing support through community-rooted interventions. This year marks their fifth year of committed service, guided by its constitution and being underseen by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR). ## _Leadership_ As we celebrate the 2024/25 year of impactful work, Bay of Hope continues to be actively led by a dedicated Board of Trustees. Our leadership team brings passion, strategic insight, and cultural understanding to every initiative, ensuring effective governance and strong accountability across all areas of operation. ## **Objectives and Activities** ## _Charitable Purposes_ The organisation’s purposes are: a) The relief of poverty by supporting children and their families in rural Uganda including the payment of school fees and the buying of school uniforms. b) The advancement of education including the management of a child sponsorship programme in rural Uganda. This will enable children from disadvantaged communities to receive a formal education. c) The advancement of health by providing humanitarian support, including the provision of medication and food parcels to those in need in rural Uganda. d) To deliver the above humanitarian support through a connected organisation, Bay of Hope International Ltd, based in Uganda. ## _Significant Activities_ Bay of Hope was able to deliver the above humanitarian work by raising funds in Scotland and remitting these to its sister charity in Uganda, Bay of Hope International Ltd who delivered these support services through a loyal team of staff and volunteers. This work is described below. Page 4 of 12 ## **Bay of Hope Report and Accounts For The Year Ended 31 March 2025** ## **Trustees' Annual Report** ## _Charitable Activities_ ## **Child Sponsorship Programme** Over the past year: • A team of four trustees from Bay of Hope (Scotland) undertook a meaningful visit to our sister charity, Bay of Hope International in Uganda, between 09/08/24 to 15/08/24 to witness the official **opening of Kirstie’s Cottage** —our first dedicated residential home for vulnerable young people. • Kirstie’s Cottage now provides safe housing for **six children and young people** who have experienced abuse, abandonment, or other forms of hardship. This milestone represents a major step forward in our mission to offer protection, stability, and hope to those most in need. - The visit was a resounding success, offering trustees firsthand insight into the **transformative impact** of our work. It strengthened cross-border collaboration, deepened our understanding of local challenges, and reaffirmed our commitment to expanding compassionate care through sustainable, community-rooted solutions. - We’ve seen **notable improvements in academic outcomes** among our sponsored students, driven by **consistent** - **access to quality education** and stable learning environments. - **Two students are preparing to enter high school** , marking a significant milestone in their educational journey and - personal development. - Currently, 45 students are supported through our sponsorship programme, receiving the tools and - encouragement they need to thrive. - To make sponsorship more accessible, we’re actively promoting £5 monthly donations, enabling more individuals to contribute meaningfully to a child’s future. - We’re encouraged by a growing number of sponsors stepping forward to support our young people—proof that - collective action can transform lives. ## **Orphanage & Child Protection Work** - **5 vulnerable young people** were rescued from abuse, abandonment, or ritual harm. - **4 abandoned children** were safely reunited with their families in Uganda. - Those still in our care reside in a **safe house** , managed by compassionate and trained volunteer caregivers. ## **Family Empowerment & Community Development** - We believe education is a **catalyst for household transformation** —when one family member is empowered,the entire family benefits. - Our model champions **family-led sustainability** by enhancing access to education and opportunities. Page 5 of 12 ## **Bay of Hope Report and Accounts For The Year Ended 31 March 2025** ## **Trustees' Annual Report** ## **Health and Livelihood Interventions** In pursuit of holistic support, Bay of Hope has: - Provided **essential medication and food aid** to families in crisis. • Bay of Hope responded to a deeply distressing situation involving a **vulnerable young lady** found in an abandoned house beside the deceased body of her brother,who had tragically starved to death. The siblings had been left without care or resources, and the young woman was in a state of extreme physical and emotional distress. Upon discovery, our team acted swiftly to: - **Rescue and stabilize** the young woman, providing urgent medical attention and emotional support. - **Coordinate with local authorities** to ensure the scene was handled with sensitivity and legal oversight. - **Offer trauma-informed care** , including psychological counselling and safe shelter. - **Begin long-term rehabilitation planning** , focused on restoring her health, dignity, and future prospects. This intervention not only **saved a life** , but also highlighted the devastating consequences of neglect and abandonment. It reaffirmed our mission to: - Be a **lifeline for the most vulnerable** , especially those hidden from view. - Advocate for **community vigilance** and stronger child protection systems. - Ensure that **no one is left behind** , regardless of how dire or invisible their circumstances may be. ## **Safe Housing Development** A major milestone this year was the successful completion of a **secure cottage** , now home to 6 young people in our care: - A **perimeter wall** was constructed to enhance safety and privacy. - A **gate was installed** , making the home fully secure and operational for residents. ## _Future Plans_ With the foundation firmly in place, Bay of Hope is now turning toward **sustainability and growth** : ## **Cottage Sustainability Project** We plan to establish a small chicken farm and kitchen garden within the cottage compound, which will: - Provide fresh eggs and produce to feed the residents. - Generate a modest income stream to help cover ongoing costs. Our goal is to model **self-sufficiency** and create sustainable livelihoods that support long-term care and development. As part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding vulnerable individuals,Bay of Hope is undertaking a strategic expansion of its residential support facilities. We plan to build **four additional cottages** on land owned by the organisation in Uganda. These cottages will provide safe, stable housing for individuals—particularly children and young people—who are in **immediate danger** due to abuse, abandonment, or other forms of exploitation.
