Trustees Report:
The Hive LGBT+ Centre was developed and has been run by Pink Saltire. In November 2021 Pink Saltire set up a new Charity, The Hive LGBT+ Centre SCIO, with the aim of that charity taking over the running of the Centre in due course. Following a recruitment exercise, the new Hive LGBT+ Centre SCIO Board met for the first time in February 2022. A further round of recruitment took place in July 2022, with new Trustees taking office from 18 August 2022.
The early meetings of the new board were focussed on developing governance structures and policies. We also supported Pink Saltire in its preparations for the opening of the centre in August 2022. We ran a stall at Fife Pride in September 2022 to promote the centre and help recruit volunteers.
In November 2022, The Hive Board held two development sessions with Pink Saltire. From the information received at these development sessions, it became apparent to the Hive Board that Pink Saltire’s plans for its organisation and how it saw the ongoing role of the Hive LGBT+ Centre SCIO had changed significantly from those envisaged when the Hive Board was recruited.
It was clear to the Hive Board that Pink Saltire’s plans for the Hive Board to take over full responsibility for the Hive Centre by 01 April 2023 were unrealistic. We therefore sent an alternative proposal to Pink Saltire on 18 December 2022, with a request that we meet and work together to keep open and develop the Hive. This offer was declined by Pink Saltire.
On following this up, we were informed by Pink Saltire that they were in discussions with a third party “who could operate the centre on a not-for-profit basis”. The Hive Board has not been party to these discussions, and any decision of the future management arrangements for the Hive LGBT+ Centre will be made by Pink Saltire.
As the Hive LGBT+ Centre SCIO has no current or future role in the management of the Hive LGBT+ Centre, which was the primary purpose behind our establishment as a Charity, the Hive LGBT+ SCIO Trustees concluded that the charity should be dissolved with immediate effect, and an application to dissolve has been submitted to OSCR.
