Darfur Foundation:

At the Darfur Foundation, a UK-based charity, we are committed to supporting refugees, asylum seekers, and members of the wider Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community, with a particular focus on displaced Sudanese individuals living in the United Kingdom. Our mission is to improve their overall well-being by promoting both physical and mental health, while nurturing civic engagement and shared values among those settling in the UK. We strive to facilitate their successful integration into mainstream Scottish society, helping them to build fulfilling lives and contribute meaningfully to their new communities. In doing so, we aim to enrich Scottish culture through initiatives that celebrate, preserve, and promote Sudanese heritage, traditions, and values.

Aims & Objectives:

Our work with refugees and asylum seekers is centred on providing comprehensive support and advocacy to improve the lives of these vulnerable communities. We are committed to ensuring their physical and emotional well-being while championing the human rights of vulnerable individuals at both local and national levels. We actively facilitate the ongoing integration of refugees and asylum seekers into their new communities, promoting social inclusion, cohesion, and a sense of belonging. By offering access to education, employment opportunities, and skills development, we empower individuals to achieve self-reliance and build fulfilling lives. In parallel, we strive to raise public awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers, working to counter prejudice and correct misinformation.

Compassion:

Compassion for refugees and asylum seekers is central to addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Many are forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, and violence, seeking safety and the opportunity for a better life in the United Kingdom. At the Darfur Foundation, we demonstrate empathy and provide practical support to help ease their transition and facilitate integration into Scottish communities. By offering shelter, essential resources, and emotional guidance, we not only uphold our moral responsibility but also contribute to fostering a more inclusive, compassionate society. We welcome refugees and asylum seekers with understanding and kindness, nurturing mutual respect and enriching Scotland’s cultural diversity through shared experiences and engagement.

Charity’s Structure, Governance and Management:

Constitution:

This organisation is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), formally registered on 18 November 2021. Operating as a single-tier entity, it functions in accordance with a clearly defined constitution that sets out its purposes and objectives. The organisation also upholds robust codes of practice and comprehensive safeguarding policies, ensuring that all its activities are conducted with transparency, accountability, and the highest standards of ethical governance.

Appointment of Trustees:

Trustees are appointed according to the constitution and convene quarterly to discuss on policies, fundraising efforts, project delivery, and to strategically steer the charity's objectives. Their key responsibilities include:

Appointment: Trustees are formally appointed in accordance with the provisions set out in the organisation’s constitution, ensuring that all appointments align with the charity's governing framework and legal requirements.

Strategic Leadership: Trustees provide overarching strategic guidance, setting the direction of the organisation in accordance with its charitable purpose and long-term

objectives. This includes anticipating future challenges and opportunities to ensure sustainable growth and impact.

Governance and Decision-Making: Trustees convene regular meetings to develop and review policies, design initiatives, and oversee the delivery of projects. These activities ensure that the organisation remains aligned with its strategic goals and operates with integrity and effectiveness.

Financial Stewardship: Trustees take a leading role in managing the organisation's finances, including directing funding applications and fundraising campaigns. They ensure all financial activities comply with statutory and regulatory requirements and adhere to best practice in financial management and reporting.

Accountability: Trustees maintain transparency and accountability to donors, beneficiaries, and stakeholders. They uphold their fiduciary duties and ensure full compliance with all regulatory obligations, fostering trust and confidence in the organisation. , Performance Management and Measurement: Trustees establish clear success criteria and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and assess progress towards the charity’s mission. This framework enables informed decision-making and continuous improvement. Monitoring and Evaluation: Trustees oversee the implementation of projects and programmes, ensuring that activities are delivered effectively, objectives are met, and the intended impact is achieved.

Volunteer and Member Recruitment: Trustees are responsible for the recruitment and onboarding of volunteers and members, selecting individuals whose skills, expertise, and commitment contribute positively to the delivery of services and advancement of the organisation’s objectives.

Safeguarding Policy:

Our Safeguarding Policy is established to protect children and vulnerable adults who engage with the services provided by this charity, including the children of adult service users. For the purposes of this policy, the term “children” refers to individuals under the age of eighteen. Darfur Foundation is firmly committed to the principle that no child or young person should ever experience abuse or harm, and we are dedicated to their protection. This policy provides guidance and outlines key principles for our staff and volunteers, shaping our approach to safeguarding and child protection.

The Charity acknowledges that children may be at risk of a range of abuses and harms, which can take many forms and arise in various contexts. These include, but are not limited to, physical or emotional abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, female genital mutilation (FGM), grooming, exploitation, trafficking, modern slavery, exposure to domestic abuse, bullying (including cyberbullying), access to inappropriate content or behaviours (such as violence or criminal activity), self-harm, and injuries sustained during unsupervised activities.

The sources of harm or abuse may be diverse, including family members or individuals within the wider community. Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults is a fundamental responsibility of our Charity. We are committed to ensuring that every child under our care is adequately protected. It is essential that all individuals covered by this policy actively engage in safeguarding practices and uphold their duty to protect children and vulnerable adults.

Responsibility of everyone under this policy:

Remaining alert and aware of potential safeguarding risks to children and vulnerable adults is of paramount importance. This includes protecting them from harmful environments by ensuring adequate supervision and maintaining safe surroundings. We are committed to safeguarding the wellbeing and safety of all children and vulnerable adults who interact with our Charity. This requires taking proactive measures to protect them and always uphold their security.

It is vital to report any concerns promptly and appropriately, in line with established child protection procedures. This includes recognising the responsibility to escalate specific concerns while respecting the need for confidentiality.

We are dedicated to identifying, addressing, and reporting any inappropriate or harmful behaviour by adults towards children or vulnerable individuals. All staff and volunteers must act responsibly when in the presence of children, avoiding any unnecessary risks and refraining from smoking, consuming alcohol, or using illicit substances.

Achievements:

Since its establishment in 2021, this Charity has successfully raised funds and delivered a range of impactful projects up to 2025. During the year from 06.04.2024 to 05.04.2025, we successfully secured a total of £10,500 through fundraising. These funds enabled us to achieve key milestones, including hosting community outreach events for Sudanese refugees and asylum seekers across Greater Glasgow and Clyde, which featured a variety of social and cultural activities.

In addition, these funds helped us provide vital support to those in need, including food bank programmes, English language classes, digital literacy training, and mental health support, and provide travel expenses and refreshments during our Bi-weekly meetings. We also assisted vulnerable families and single parents with winter clothing and essential utility top-ups, such as electricity and gas.

Looking ahead, we remain optimistic about expanding our fundraising efforts and continuing to deliver projects that create meaningful impact, in line with our mission and charitable objectives.

Volunteers:

Between November 2021 and April 2025, the Darfur Foundation benefited from the dedication and commitment of 12 volunteers who played a vital role across our projects. Their contributions encompassed a wide range of activities, including ESOL tutoring, providing digital support, food bank distribution, interpreting services, organising sports activities, social and cultural events for refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants

Of note this year was the invaluable support our volunteers provided during the costof-living crisis, helping vulnerable individuals and families navigate challenging circumstances. The volunteers’ diverse skills, experiences, and backgrounds allowed us to enhance and tailor our services, ensuring they were closely aligned with the specific needs of the communities we serve.

Service Users:

Since its establishment in 2021, this Charity has worked with individuals from a wide range of nationalities and ethnic backgrounds. While the majority of our service users and volunteers have been Sudanese nationals and other migrants, we have also supported individuals from Global South. The largest proportion of our community comprises asylum seekers and refugees, however, our services are inclusive and

accessible to all members of the community seeking social connection and support across Glasgow.

Recently, with a strengthened focus on ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), digital literacy, mental health awareness workshops, equality & diversity training and workshops, and sports activities, we have successfully engaged a broader and more diverse demographic across multiple areas of Glasgow, expanding the reach and impact of our programmes.

PARTNERSHIPS:

The Darfur Foundation has relied on a strong and collaborative network of local organisations, all united by a shared commitment to supporting communities during challenging times. Throughout this period, we successfully delivered a wide range of essential supplies directly to recipients’ doorsteps. These included fresh produce, cleaning products, toiletries, children’s activity packs, mindfulness exercises for adults, physical activity sessions, English language classes, digital literacy training, and mobile top-up vouchers.

Partnership working has been central to the Darfur Foundation’s success in supporting refugees, asylum seekers, and other migrants across Glasgow and beyond. Between November 2021 and 2025, we developed strong and productive collaborations with several key organisations, including Cross Ethnic, Glasgow City Mission, the Mental Health Foundation, the Scottish Refugee Council, Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector (GCVS), Jobs & Business Glasgow, and the Sudan Women Action Group (SWAG).

These partnerships have played a vital role in extending the reach, quality, and effectiveness of our services. Through joint initiatives, information sharing, and coordinated delivery, we have been able to provide more comprehensive support to individuals and families facing complex challenges. Working together has enabled us to strengthen community networks, enhance access to essential services such as mental health support, education, and social inclusion programmes, and ensure that our activities remain responsive to the evolving needs of the communities we serve.

Collectively, these collaborations embody a shared commitment to compassion, inclusion, and empowerment, helping to build a stronger, more connected, and resilient community for refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants in Glasgow.

Events:

From April 2024 to April 2025, the Darfur Foundation focused its efforts on celebrating the creativity and diversity within the Sudanese community. During this period, we also marked the successful completion of our inaugural suite of projects, which included ESOL classes for refugees and asylum seekers, the provision of food banks and other essential items, digital literacy training, mental health awareness workshops, and sessions on equality, diversity, and inclusion. In addition, we organised sports activities, social and cultural events, culminating in celebratory gatherings that brought the community together and showcased the achievements and talents of those we

serve.

Reserves:

This year from April 2024 — April 2025 we generated a total of £10,500, and our expenditure was £13,581 to deliver our projects. Therefore, our balance is (£3,081)

Our Future Plans:

Looking ahead, the Darfur Foundation is committed to strengthening and expanding its support for Sudanese refugees, asylum seekers, and other migrant communities. A key focus will be on securing sustainable funding streams to ensure the long-term continuity and growth of our programmes. Building on the notable fundraising successes achieved since our registration in November 2021, the Foundation aims to diversify its income sources through grant applications, community fundraising initiatives, partnerships with local authorities, and collaborations with other charitable organisations.

Our future plans place strong emphasis on sustainability ensuring that our projects continue to deliver meaningful and measurable impact while adapting to the evolving needs of the communities we serve. In the forthcoming financial year, we intend to

develop and implement new initiatives that enhance access to education, skills development, mental health support, and community integration. These will include expanding our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and digital literacy programmes, introducing employability and training workshops, and strengthening our mental health and wellbeing services.

Furthermore, the Foundation will continue to prioritise partnership working with other local and national organisations to maximise resources, share expertise, and avoid duplication of effort. Collaboration will remain at the heart of our strategy, ensuring that refugees and asylum seekers across Greater Glasgow have access to holistic, coordinated, and high-quality support.

By deepening community engagement and fostering inclusion, the Darfur Foundation aims not only to meet immediate needs but also to empower individuals to build stable, independent, and fulfilling lives within their new communities.

Statement of Responsibilities of Trustees & Independent Examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, | do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: ¢ to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and
