Comics Youth SCIO is a charity for children and young people aged 8-25, based in Dundee. We deliver comics-based literacy, sequential art, publishing and wellbeing projects, as well as comics workshops at community spaces and other organisations around the city. We are a lived experience led organisation – as young people we struggled with mental ill-health and tackled issues such as chronic illness, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. We use our platform as an organisation to give young people ownership of their own narratives, and our work focuses on building resilience, mental wellbeing and literacy through creativity and comic-making. It’s vitally important for young people to see themselves represented, and it is our mission to amplify their voices as much as possible and involve them in every step of the work that we do.

Objectives: 4 In line with section 7(2) of the 2005 Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act, the organisation's purposes are: (a) To relieve the needs of marginalised young people aged 8 to 25 who are currently receiving or have received treatment in hospital by supporting the exploration of health and wellbeing through the creative lens of therapeutic comic book and zine-making thereby aiming to reduce isolation and increase confidence and self-esteem. (b) To advance the education of marginalised young people aged 8 to 25 through providing a structured learning programme, organisation of creative workshops, a forum for self-expressions and an environment to gain knowledge in publishing and the creative sector. (c) To educate the public on difficult subjects often experienced by young people through public information comics that give a young persons perspective on subjects such as: transitioning from primary to secondary school, childhood bereavement or living in care homes.
