DUNFERMLINE MEN’S SHED TRUSTEES’ REPORT
For the Year Ended 30 September 2025
The Trustees present their report and financial statements for the year ended 30 September 2025. These have been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
Objectives and activities
To provide recreational facilities and advance the social needs, health and wellbeing of principally men of all ages and backgrounds living in Dunfermline and district by a) Creating, developing and maintaining a facility, namely a Men’s Shed, b) Offering opportunities for principally men in the Dunfermline area to meet and undertake creative, physical, purposeful and recreational activities of their choice, c) Reducing isolation of principally men in the area thus contributing to their physical and mental wellbeing, d) Developing the capacity of principally men in the Dunfermline area to share their skills and knowledge with others in the community, through the delivery of a range of community projects.
Achievements and performance
A working group was set up in March 2021 to develop the idea of establishing a Men’s Shed in Dunfermline. Following a series of Zoom meetings during lockdown and a Public Meeting, Dunfermline Men’s Shed came into being in September 2021.
Initially the Shed met in temporary accommodation before moving into more suitable premises provided by The Carnegie Dunfermline Trust and Fife Council at The Steadings, Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline. During the last year, considerable work was done by Fife Council and Fife College to replace the roof of the workshops. While this work was proceeding, the members were still able to undertake a number of community projects in Pittencrieff Park and for other local organisations.
Now that the roof work has been completed, the workshops are being upgraded to allow more members to work on projects.
The facility is open to members at various times during the week and there is also a range of off-site social activities through the month. As at 30" September 2025, there were 44 full members enjoying the facilities and external activities.

Financial Review
The Shed derived income from a combination of membership fees and the sale of refreshments as well as from a number of donations, which produced a surplus of £387.95 for the year (2024 a deficit of £437.02).
The Trustees are grateful to all the individuals and organisations who provided funds to the Shed during the year.
Plans for 2025/2026
The plan is to continue to expand our membership and to offer the members the opportunity to undertake and enjoy new activities.
A number of guest speakers made presentations to the members during the year. This will continue in 2025/26, with visits to other Sheds and other places of interest being planned.
We are currently in discussions with Fife Council/ Carnegie Trust over their desire for us to enter into a full repairing lease for the premises for a rolling period of 20 years. This will strengthen our position relating to applying for external grant aid, whilst committing us to the additional capital costs of a rolling programme of repairs, as well as additional revenue costs of buildings insurance, electricity bills and the lease itself.
There is a further major development at proposal stage for the year ahead, as we are being encouraged to contribute to the capital cost of a separately metered solar panel and storage battery scheme for our premises, to offset the ongoing costs of electricity consumption at the site.
These latter two proposals require careful thought, the taking of appropriate legal advice and the creation of a sustainable, phased development plan for the organisation. They represent a potentially major evolutionary step in the development of the Shed, if managed carefully to fruition.
