## **Objectives & Activities** 

Rotary Club of Aberdeen Deeside Trust (also known as Aberdeen Deeside Rotary Trust or ADR Trust) was setup as a registered charity to support and enhance the charitable activities of the Rotary Club of Aberdeen Deeside (also known as Aberdeen Deeside Rotary or ADR). This will be achieved through the seeking of funding from various sources including personal donations, corporate donations and grant funding in line with our constitution and the policies set out by Rotary International. 

The Organisation’s purposes are to raise and disburse funds for the following purposes: 

- The prevention or relief of poverty 

- Assisting those that are socially isolated or those that are imminent risk of being socially isolated 

- The advancement of education 

- The advancement of physical health 

- The relief and assistance of those with and those assisting with mental health problems 

- The advancement of citizenship or community development 

- The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science 

- The advancement of public participation in sport 

- The provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended 

- The advancement of human rights, conflict resolution or reconciliation 

- The advancement of environmental protection or improvement 

- The relief of those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage 

- To support other local, National and International registered charities that assist in the education, leadership development and the welfare of children 

- To assist charity healthcare providers on a local, national and on an international basis

- For national and international disaster relief 

In this financial year, we have started a project to install a wheelchair accessible swing in Duthie Park, Aberdeen.  This project is being conducted in partnership with Bon-Accord Rotary.  This financial year saw the bulk of the fundraising for this project.  The generous donations from members of the public and the grant funding that we have managed to secure has allowed us to extend the scope of the project to another piece of wheelchair accessible play equipment in addition to the swing.  Aberdeen City Council will conduct the procurement & installation of the swing & additional play equipment. 

We have also funded Scottish cultural experiences through a grant received from Foundation Scotland.

## **Structure, Governance & Management** 

Type of Governing Document 

ADR Trust is governed by its constitution. 

Trustee Recruitment & Appointment 

There have been no changes to the trustees during this financial year. 

The constitution requirements on Trustees are as follows: 

Trustees will be elected at the Annual General Meeting of Members and will be members of the organisation or someone with specialist skills of experience nominated by the Board of Trustees.  The Board of Trustees may appoint a trustee until the next AGM of members.  At the 3rd AGM all trustees are deemed retired but are eligible for re-election.  A person is eligible to become a trustee if: they are not disqualified from being a charity trustee under the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005; they are not an employee of the organisation; at least two trustees must not be a member of the Rotary Club of Aberdeen Deeside Council.

## **Achievements & Performance** 

The primary achievements of the charity in this financial year are as follows.  By far the biggest activity was for the Disabled Swing Project, due to the larger amount of money raised and the potential impact for disabled people in Aberdeen. 

Disabled Swing Appeal 

ADR Trust has partnered with Bon-Accord Rotary to fund the procurement and installation of a wheelchair accessible swing, to be installed in Duthie Park, Aberdeen.  Aberdeen City Council will procure and install the equipment. 

All the funds raised through the project will be routed through ADR Trust, who will also provide grant funding applications.  Members of Bon-Accord Rotary will provide publicity, fundraising and assistance on the liaison with Aberdeen City Council. 

The project has been very successful in securing funding from a number of sources.  In addition to donations, three significant grants have been awarded, from the Stafford Trust, NHS Grampian Charities and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. 

The success of the fundraising has allowed the project to expand the scope to include an additional piece of wheelchair accessible play equipment, likely to be a seesaw. 

At the end of the financial year, the swing was in the procurement process, with the funds for that part of the project likely to be disbursed to Aberdeen City Council shortly into the next financial year.  The details of the additional piece of wheelchair accessible play equipment were being finalised.  The swing is expected to be installed by the end of 2025, with the additional play equipment probably in early 2026. 

Foreign Students Scottish Experiences 

The charity received a grant from Foundation Scotland to provide Scottish cultural experiences to foreign students who are studying in Aberdeen.  Through the year, we funded the following events:

- Trip to Aboyne Highland Games in August 2024 

- International Student Evening in October 2024 

- Christmas Party in December 2024 

- Bingo Evening in February 2025 

We provided transport and tickets to take students from Aberdeen University and Robert Gordon University to the Aboyne Highland Games.  They spent the day at the games, enjoying this uniquely Scottish experience.  Transport was then provided to return them to Aberdeen. 

The International Students Evening involved students attending Robert Gordon’s University.  They shared with us information on their homeland, their first experiences in Scotland and what they missed most from home.  A supper was enjoyed by all. 

The students attended our Christmas Party, which was open to those students and their partners who were unable to return home for the festive season. 

We took them to a bingo event and amongst great hilarity they learnt the game of bingo and enjoyed a traditional British Fish Supper.  Many of them won games and went away with vouchers to return for a supper at a local fish restaurant.

At the end of the year, the charity held £35,762 in its bank accounts. 

The accounts report a surplus for this financial year of £34,422.  This is due to the money being collected for the Disabled Swing Appeal, in particular, and not being disbursed until the next financial year. 

Statement of the Charity’s Policy on Reserves 

ADR Trust will retain £1,000 in reserves to cover unforeseen emergency requests for funding in support of the charity’s aims.

There was a surplus in this financial year.

## **Future Plans** 

Aberdeen Deeside Rotary Trust is currently looking to raise funding to achieve the following: 

- complete our project to install a disabled swing and an additional piece of wheelchair play equipment in Duthie Park, Aberdeen in partnership with Bon-Accord Rotary 

- progress a project to install benches along the Old Deeside Railway Line in Aberdeen 

- provide Scottish cultural experiences for international students coming to Aberdeen

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of Rotary Club of Aberdeen Deeside Trust 

| report on the accounts for the year ended 30 June 2025 set out on pages five to seven. 

## Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Independent Examiner 

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity's trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(a) to (c) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. 

## Basis of the independent examiner’s report 

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence which would be required in an audit and, consequently, | do not express an audit opinion on the accounts. 

## Independent Examiner’s Statement 

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention 

- 1 which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: 

   - to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations; and 

   - to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations.
