## **Objectives and Activities**

## **Charitable purposes**

The Organisation's main purpose is consistent with furthering the achievement of sustainable development. The Organisation's purposes are:

• The advancement of citizenship or community development through the management of community land and associated assets, including the conservation of its natural environment, and providing environmental and recreational amenities and improved access for the benefit of the Community and the public.

• The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science through the facilitation of music, cultural and art events for the community and the public in order to further public awareness of the local environment, culture, heritage and history.

- The provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities which will be

- available for use by members of the community and public.

## **Activities**

The Morvern Games and Gala Week committee hosts an annual event in Morvern every July, featuring the highly anticipated Morvern Highland Games, which serves as the week's kickoff at Knock Park, Lochaline. The day's attractions include children's sports, adult athletics and heavy events, alongside performances by pipe bands, displays of Highland dancing, tug-of-war contests, and novelty races such as the 'wife-carrying race', and whisky barrel rolling. Additionally, a market street offers a variety of food, craft and charity stalls, refreshments, chainsaw carving demonstrations, a bouncy castle, live music and much more.

Following the Highland Games, the committee organises a diverse timetable of events and activities suitable for all ages, including a duck race, clay pigeon shooting, afternoon teas, Drimnin cinema showings, bowls, badminton, quiz nights, bingo, rodeo race night, treasure hunts, mini Highland games, heritage and nature walks, shinty, play sessions for children under five, live music, ceilidhs raft races, water sports, a flower festival, sand mine tours, darts and a plethora of other activities. The aim is to ensure that all local groups and businesses can benefit from the week-long festivities.

## **Achievements and Performance**

The Scottish Sea Farms Heart of the Community Fund has enabled the committee to enhance facilities at Knock Park, by providing a new marquee. Since the pandemic, there has been a significant increase in the number of stalls participating in our games, prompting the committee to ensure that the facilities can expand in tandem with the event's growth.

The charity has successfully leveraged its expertise to attract substantial support from visitors and locals attending the Highland Games. This support has been evident not only on the event day but throughout the week, with all activities enjoying strong attendance and drawing large crowds to Morvern. The charity organised several events and managed all logistics for the week, ensuring a wide range of enjoyable options for everyone.

## **Plans for the future**

The Morvern Games and Gala Week committee has had the opportunity to participate in the Local Place Plan board to outline future developments for Knock Park. This proposal has now been submitted to the Council, and the committee looks forward to the next steps once they receive all necessary documentation from their buyout. They are grateful for the feedback and suggestions received through the LPP in which can be added to the support received through their own consultations as they move forward with the enhancements to Knock Park. Discussions regarding quotations are underway, with the initial priority being to secure the boundaries of the acquired land.

## **Reserves policy**

Where there is no specific policy, the charity aims to retain sufficient funds required to meet

annual running costs.

An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention
