Objectives and Activities

Thistle Youth Football Club was established in 2015 by a small group of likeminded individuals from North East of Aberdeenshire who wanted to provide a platform for children and youths in the area to develop and learn football in line with the SYFA Player Pathway. The Player Pathway is firmly underpinned by our volunteer coaches, committee members and club supporters who give up their time to create a culture and environment, in line with the SFA Positive Coaching philosophy, that ensures all young players of mixed ability can learn and play with in an inclusive environment.

By providing a safe environment for children to play football we aim to encourage and promote the development and health in young players within the community of Newburgh and North East Aberdeenshire. We achieve this through the provision of youth football teams for boys and girls, irrespective of race, colour, religion, sex, sexuality or disabilities.

The Goal in the Club’s Badge refers to our vision to develop all players and coaches, in a positive way so they learn, progress and maximise their potential whilst enjoying football for the long-term building of strong friendships, teamwork and a sense of belonging.

Thistle Youth are fully invested in the ‘redefining success’ initiative outlined by the SFA that puts player development and wellbeing ahead of results. This is complimented with focused and structured coach education and knowledge sharing to ensure each player can achieve their full footballing potential in a safe and fun environment playing with their friends.

We have built on our ethos by working our way through the SFA Quality Mark Awards and we now hold the highest award of Platinum Legacy.

The club has grown to include over 360 players, 100+ volunteer coaches, 18 age groups facilitating football for over 55 girls and over 300 boys.

Structure. Governance and Management Thistle Youth FC are a constituted group and we abide by the statements laid out within our Constitution which is updated and reviewed annually at our AGM. Trustee Recruitment and Appointment Trustee's are recruited from the current TYFC Committee. There are a number of changes pending in the Trustee Committee in the coming year with new members joining the Trustees as other members, who's children have moved into adult football, leave. The new members will be replaced by members from our current Committee. Achievements and Performance WE have continued to fund the Skills Academy and Goalkeeper Academy this year, offering additional, free, specialised training for all age groups and genders who want to improve their technical skills with additional sessions. We continue to fund our coach training for all head coaches in line with the SFA coaching pathway. This is a continuous process with each new age group comes a new set of volunteers who begin their coaching journey with the club. This allows us to train our children in line with SFA guidance and best practices. Financial Review

We rely heavily on the Player Subscriptions (63%), Fundraising (15%) and Donations (12%) to fund the clubs activities. Kit Sponsorship (6%) also helps raise money for playing and training kit.

Facility Hire (38%), playing kit (16%) and General Expenses to facilitate playing games and training for the children are the primary Expenditure for the club. The lack and cost of Facility hire in the area is particularly challenging for our teams to ensure match day and training facilities.

Reserves

We aim to hold 3 months of running costs at all times in the main account. This relates to around £1800. Each age group also retains sufficient funds to ensure they do not run short during the season.

The amount held by individual age groups at the start of each season (August) can be elevated pending the purchase of new training kit, match strips, training equipment, etc.

We are not a profit making organisation so we will continue to reinvest any excess back into our charity aim.

Future Plans

The club has reached it’s capacity in terms of having all age groups represented in both the girls and boys youth development leagues. We will look to maintain our ethos and coaching quality across all age groups and will continue to launch our youngest age groups for children entering Primary 1 to ensure the opportunity is there for local boys and girls to play football.
