Objectives and Activities

Charitable purposes

To promote the care, welfare and relieve the needs of persons affected from Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) in Scotland. We provide support and information to individuals affected by TSC through email, social media and telephone.

Achievements and Performance

During the period of 22/23, TSC Support Scotland has managed to do much more than previously dur to the Covid-19 Pandemic restrictions in place. We have continued to support the community via email, telephone and through messaged via our social media channel of Facebook. However, we are also now able to provide more face-to-face support as well as arranging information support days for our community to attend. This has enabled us to engage with the community and offer practical and emotional support. We supported families, including those who had been newly diagnosed, and provided them with accurate information and liaised with the TSC Clinic in Glasgow and many other statutory and voluntary organisations. We also provided support in relation to education and

learning, transitions, work and childcare, equipment and adaptations, carers rights and regularly provided information on sources of financial assistance and signposted to other sources of expert advice and support, all ensuring our community were receiving accurate and timely information and access to statutory services where appropriate. Our Chair and Volunteer have also continued to manage our social media page through Facebook where we continue to keep it updated with relevant information, and during this period has reached over 200 families and individuals in Scotland.

We have also engaged with the Office for Rare Conditions in Glasgow, the RareAware Team (Glasgow Uni), Contact (Scotland Team) and Genetic Centres, who, along with many others, are now signposting the community to our services and support.

TSC Support Scotland has attended the By Your Side project run by Contact in Scotland which allowed us to meet families affected by TSC, make them aware of us and other organisations who could support them. We also held our own information support day with support of the Office for Rare Conditions in Glasgow and Contact in Scotland, in which families managed to come along and meet other families. This gave our community a wonderful opportunity to meet others in similar situations, gain further support and information from us here at TSC Support Scotland and other organisations. Our Chair has also managed to support a family whose child was transitioning school and needed support explain about TSC and the challenges that their child faces.

Financial Review

Current Financial Situation

We have wonderful people who have raised funds for our organisation through fundraising events they have completed. One was a gentleman who donated any monies given to him for his 60[th] birthday. One event was our Chair’s husband who hosted a quiz and disco evening This money has been used to create leaflets, information packs, attend events, put on our own event, provide our board and volunteers with expenses. We hope to continue to raise further funds and potentially apply for grants.

Plans for Future Periods

We are planning to continue to support the community as before and in addition to attend various events in the coming year and are continuing to work in partnership with a variety of other charities and organisations. Partnerships will be key for us going forward to help our community with the many challenges they face. We are planning to arrange another support/information day for our community in the coming months.

The fundraising opportunities continue with a young lady completing the Glasgow Kiltwalk in September 2023 to raise money for our charity. Another is an event at the beginning of September where three young men are completing a challenge to climb 9 munro’s in a row to raise money for TSC Support Scotland. Their support will be greatly appreciated and we will be providing them with t-shirts to show their challenges and to have this as a memory of their support for us.

We are also working on updating our two leaflets, pop-up banner, pens and other merchandise that will be distributed and displayed at future events and further appropriate policies and procedures.
