**Objectives and activities**

## **Charitable Purposes.**

The prevention or relief of poverty. Our mission to increase public awareness about the true level of hunger in our community.

Our vision is to help alleviate hunger in our community by distributing donated food to those facing genuine crisis.

We operate our service ensuring we uphold the core values below.

Compassion & Respect - we recognise the inherent dignity of each person who accesses our service

Education & Prevention - striving to understand, eliminate and prevent the roots causes of hunger

Collaboration & Cooperation - engaging and involving a network of community members

Stewardship & Sustainability - being responsible stewards of our resources

**Summary of the main activities in relation to these objects**

The prevention or relief of poverty in Kilsyth and surrounding areas but not exclusively by providing emergency food supplies to individuals in need and/or charities, or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty

**APPENDIX 1 Achievement & performance:**

## **Summary of main achievements of the charity during financial period**

Kilsyth Community Food Bank scio is an independent Food Bank that has built up strong relationships with those in our community and beyond. We are grateful for the ongoing support from our local Lild & Co-op stores who have food donation stations in store and Alber Bartlett who provide us with fresh potatoes each week,

We are also grateful to everyone who has supported us over the past year, including local churches and schools.

It was another busy year for KCFB as we continued to provide a lifeline for those in our community who were facing financial hardship due to the ever-increasing cost of living crisis.

We have continued to work in partnership with the Scottish Welfare fund, Local Health Visitors, Social Work, Citizens Advice, Schools, and many other organisations in our area.

We were delighted to secure a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund to allow us to increase our provision of fresh produce to go into each Food Parcel.

Many of those who received assistance were at times overwhelmed to tears with what they received and were so thankful, stating that we had been a lifeline to them and their children and had taken so much stress and worry off their shoulders.

We also continued to provide utility top ups to families who were facing fuel poverty over the past year. We believe that no family should choose between eating or heating.

As a Food Bank we have always tried to go the extra mile to support those in crisis in our community. We have always provided more than a bag of shopping at the Food Bank; we provide hope to a community.

Our shop, the Lighthouse, has continued to provide a first-class service in our town. We have provided many families with free clothing and other goods over the past year. The Lighthouse is not just a shop; it is a place where many members of the community who are facing social isolation and experiencing loneliness simply pop in for a chat with our volunteers. This has such a positive impact on the wellbeing of these individuals as they feel connected to the community through the Lighthouse.

We have a great team of volunteers in the Lighthouse ranging from aged 18 to 78 who all work tirelessly to support the work of the shop.

We had a successful winter coat giveaway in partnership with the Rotary Club of Kilsyth that we hosted in Café refresh Kilsyth, where anyone in need of a winter coat could come and pick what they needed free of charge. We would like to extend our thanks to Kilsyth community Church for the free use of their café.

The highlight of the year for KCFB is always Christmas. Christmas was a little different this year as we decided to trial Aldi shopping vouchers that would allow families and individuals to buy exactly what they wanted for their Christmas dinner. This was well received, and we feel it is the best way forward in the future for Christmas.

We also continued to provide gifts for children who were in need.

We were overjoyed to open our new drop-in centre that has a community café area where members of the community can come together to chat and have food. This is an ongoing project that is in its early stages and still under development. We are excited to see how it unfolds over the coming year.

## **Financial review**

|**Brief statement of the charity’s**
**policy on reserves**
**Details of any deficit**
**Donated facilities and services **
**3**|3 months running coast as reserve in the bank account.|
|---|---|
||This year we had a financial deficit. This was due to several
factors including the ever-increasing cost of utilities, the rising
cost of food and the increase in rent for our charity shop and
Food Bank premises. We also had a significant cost in the
first year of operating the new drop in centre/café.|
||North Lanarkshire Council has continued to allow us to use
the small storage space as an overflow storage area for food
supplies|

## **APPENDIX 1**

## **`Other Optional Information` –**

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to each of the volunteers who have given their time to ensure the smooth running of the Food Bank and associated services.

As always, they have gone above and beyond to serve the most vulnerable members of our community.

Without their continued hard work, we could not keep providing our services.

I would also like to extend our thanks to our partner organisations and individual donors who has supported our work in the community over the past year.
