structure, Governance & Management

The main aim and purpose of the SGC sets out the following purpose and aim in its constitution, directly relating to the advancement of public participation in Sport, the organisation of recreational activities with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the activities are primarily intended.

To encourage public participation in the amateur sport of gymnastics by young persons of all abilities, particularly in Stonehaven and surrounding areas, by providing gymnastics facilities, activities and training. With the Board of Trustees set, we set up about looking at what other roles were needed to support SGC. We recruited more helpers to support the delivery of classes.

Our coaches have upskilled this year, which means that we can offer more to our gymnasts and future gymnasts.

Welcome to Stonehaven Gymnastics Club fourth Trustees Annual Report for 2024-25. Asa club we continue to go from strength to strength and we are working hard continuing to grow Stonehaven Gymnastics Club as a charity. In line with our duties as Trustees, we continue to ensure that strong governance arrangements remain in place. Policies relating to safeguarding, health and safety, equality, data protection and financial controls are all reviewed on a regular basis to ensure best practice and continual improvement.

Stonehaven Gymnastics Club started in 1981 and in the last forty plus years the club has grown and developed into a thriving, supportive and strong gymnastics club. All of our coaches, gymnasts and their families recognise the importance of continued participation and enthusiasm in sport for the wellbeing of all of our stakeholders.

We continue to be reflective, innovative and supportive in our approaches to delivering gymnastics as is our charitable purpose:

"the advancement of public participation in sport," and through the "provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational facilities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for persons for whom the facilities are primarily intended."

The welfare and safeguarding of our gymnasts remains central to everything we do. All coaches and volunteers are appropriately trained, qualified and supported, and we work closely with governing bodies to ensure our safeguarding procedures are robust and consistently applied. We are proud to provide a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment where children and young people can thrive both physically and emotionally. Our coaches are committed to supporting each gymnast to achieve their personal potential, whether recreationally or competitively.

The club continues to benefit greatly from the commitment and support of our volunteers, families and wider community. Their dedication enables the club to operate successfully and sustainably, and we remain extremely grateful for the time, energy and goodwill contributed throughout the year.

Over the last four years we have utilised our use of technology and social media platforms to communicate and engage and grow with our members to develop the club. We have also continued to invest in the development of our coaches by supporting further training and developing new coaching talent, we are committed to progressing plans towards a purpose-built facility that would enhance opportunities for gymnasts and provide a valuable asset for the local community.

Stonehaven Gymnastics Club

SC051132

Report and Receipts and Payments Year ending 31[st] July 2025

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of Stonehaven Gymnastics Club

I report on the accounts of the charity for the period ended 31[st] July 2025.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiners’ statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with the Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner’s statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements :

  2. to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and

  3. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

have not been met, or

  1. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
