CURRENT YEAR ACTIVITIES
This year has been exciting for Make and Create Arts, as it
marked our first year operating as a charity after 12
wonijerful years as a community group. we are (Jeoicate(J to
nu rturing creativity through a wi(Je range of weekly classes
for Chil(Jren an(J young tEopie in ou r iocai area. Our classes
include Drama for three different age groups, Arts & Crafts,
Drawing Skills, Ukulele, Creative Writing, Needlecrafts, Film
Making, Photography, and our Creative Youth Group. Wlth
over 170 children and young peoFJe jolning us each week,
we are igniting their imaginations and inspiring a love for the
arts.
Due to Fopular demand. this year we have opened a second Needlecraft and Sewiig skills
class and now we proudly deliver 16 creative classes every week for children and young
people in our local area.
Our primary focus across all classes Is using the arts to promote positive mental health and
wellbeing among the children and young people we work witn by providing a safe space
where participants can explore their creativity, learn new Skills and make new frien(Js.

We have delivered a great range of special event workshops this year including.. Scrunchie
Maklng Workshop anol Embroidery Workshops at our Needlecraft Class. Halloween
Photoshoot and a Baby Photoshoot at our Photography class. We hosted a creative event
(Jay as part of the Scottlsh Mental Heaitn arts Festival ana (Jeiivere(J a week-long Easter film
making camp.
WORK IN SCHOOLS
Followlng Make and Create Arts successful pa￿cIpatIOn In the flrst 3 phases of the Chlldren
and Young People Mental Health and Wellbeing (CYPMHWB) project, this year we were
delighted to be invited back in Phase 4. We delivered our 'Positive
Creations" and "Positive Families" projects across the St Andrews. St
Ambrose, Airdrie Academy and St Margaret's Clusters.

We were able to woth with over 230 children and young people delivering bespoke
workshops to students from 23 schools across Airdrie and Coatbridge.
This year the focus was on children and young people who were struggling with their mental
health an(J also refusing School. participants were seiecte(J by their scnoois anu we worke(J
to encourage them to take an interest in the arts anu engage more at School anij with their
peers.
The feedback showed the incredible value of our workshops, the children and young people
iove(J tne opwrtunity to speno time getting creative an(J learning about tne power of
positivity, discovering new ways to express their
emotions and looked lorward to attending school as
Iney knew tney woul(J get to come along to the
sessions.
Feedback from the positive Families project Showe
us how much the parenislcarers valued having
de(Jicated time each week to spend with their cnil¢J and
loved the opportunlty to get creatlve toJether.
WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP
We contlnue to be Involved In the NL Communlty Lottery
fundraising initiative, wh ich has been a great source of
ongoing funoraising for the Club ano many of our players have
been winners.
We have been successfully running our"Positive Youth
Connections. project thanks to funding from the Community
Heaitn an(y weiibeing funa (CMHWBF) to run our Creatlve
Youth Group. Thls group supports young people aged 16
and over, providing a safe and welcoming environment for
young people that fosters supportive an(J trusting
relationships, allowi ng participants to relax and engage i n
meani ngful conversations that protrote social inclusion and
connections.

Organised Activity Corner, where Creative tutors run workshops chosen by the young people
in ali man ner of creative activities an(J proviue i nteNiew prep for those looking for work or
applying to collegeluniversity.
In April we hosted our second Easier Film School funded by the
Essentia Foundation tnrougn Foundation Scotianu. This was
another amazing opportunity for young Fxople to come tc>Jether
and learn now to write, direct, film, edit and produce their own
short films in just 5 (Jays. 15 Young people joine(J us this week
and took part in the project which conclud&J with a red-carpet
screening event wnere tney were at)ie to watch their own films.
This year we had new students who haol no experience of filmlng
and also stLkYents who participated in the Film Camp last year
an(J were at)ie to t)ui l(J on the Skills ano experience they gaineo

(SMHAF) and deliver a full day event called "Revolutlon: Creallng
For Change". We were joiiied by 20 young people aged between 7

and drama workshops that
encouraged tnem to explore activist
art an(J (iiscuss how we can use the
arts to make a difference in our
society.
This was a great day and the
participants thoroughly enjoyed the
workShOPS an(J fee(Jback Showe(J tnat
they all felt more able to discuss their
feelings with friends an¢J family especial ly when they are
feeling sad or upset.
sTuDE￿r SHOWCASE OPPORTUNITIES
This year we were aDie to hOI(J three showcase opportunities for the young people who
attend our weekly classes. In November we held our
Winter snowcase performance night. Our music and
(Jrama stu(Jents were (Jeiiohteo to take to the stage and
perform i n-lront ol an audience. Families and friends
were entertaineo Dy performances from our Youth
Theatre, who retoloj dassic Shakespeare stories L)ut
with a modern ￿1st, Intermediate Drama, who used a
series of snort scenes an(J unusual Characters to
explore t1￿ complexities of decision making and the
paths we choose when facea with crossroads in life
and the Drama Klols class, who had created a story
inspired by the coronation of King Charles 11 l. The
Drama stuuents were joine(J on stage Dy our Scnooi of
Rock and Ukulele stu(ienls who Fxrformed Christmas
soiigs aiid led us all iii a Chrisimas siiig-aloiig.

In May we held our Photography Exhibition, where students from our Photography classes
had the opwrtunity to Invite friends and family to their very owii exhibition night to celebrate
the skills they have learned and the work they have
createij this year.
We also held our annual Summer Showcase in
May and this was another great Suc￿ss. we were
delighied to parlner with the Cumbernauld
Community Cinema who brought along their
professional clnema screen anol equipment to
show the films created by our Film Making
stu(Jents from our weekly classes as weil as the
films created during our Easter Art Camp. This was
a g reat event, with fantastlc Cli splays of work from
our visual arts anti textiles classes. Arts & Crafts, Drawing skills,
Filmmaking and Photography.
reabve Writing, Needlecra
These exhiLiition nights are always open to the public and are a great opportunlty for members
of our community to come along and see what we are doing. It also gives us the opportunity
to spenu time with parentsicarers an(J get their feeuback at)out how the classes are helping
their children. Over 70 % of parents told us how attending our classes have helFed to improve
their child's confidence and made them feel more connected with others.

FUTURE PLANS
We are excited to continue offering our 16 weekly classes, which are cherished by our
community for creating a safe anij creative learning environment. These classes empower
individuals to express themselves creatively, build confidence. and forge new connections.
Our exceptional team of quaiifieo tutors is (Jeoicated to enhancing mental health for School
leavers through our CMHWB-funded Youth Group. They wll also engage in Phase 5 of the
CYPMHWB project, (Jeiivering meaningful creative projects in iocai SChOOlS. we eagerly
anticipate resuming our collaboration with the St. Andrew's, St. Ambrose, and Airdrie
Academy clusters. Together, we will embark on another inspiring year of the Positive
Creations an(J Positive Fami lies projects.
FINANCE
The charlty generaled a su rplus of £46,016, restrlcted Surplus of £21,026, unrestrlcted surplus of
£24,990.
Total income for the year was £125,047- Restricted grant income was £53,715 from The National
Lottery, Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire , foundation Scotland and SMHAF- Unrestricted income
from Lt)natlons and other Income totalled £13,331.
Total expenditure for the year was £78,136 of this was Restricted and £54,791 was unrestricted
£24,271. Charitable activities totalled £78,136, and governance costs of £896.
