Achievements and performance

2

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the financial period

During this financial period, Heids and Herts Scotland focused on strengthening its role as a facilitator of creative collaboration, social connection, and community wellbeing across North East Fife and the East Neuk. The year was characterised by a combination of programme development, sector convening, and the creation of lasting cultural resources.

A major strand of activity was the continued development of The Village Creative programme . Building on delivery and evaluation from previous years, the charity refined the programme model, support framework, and eligibility criteria to improve consistency, inclusion, and impact measurement. During the period, eight community-led creative projects were selected for delivery in 2025. These projects span a wide range of creative practices, including arts, heritage, writing, music, and intergenerational activity, all aimed at reducing social isolation, strengthening community identity, and improving wellbeing through creative participation.

The charity also delivered its second Creative Spaces & Communities Conference , held on Tuesday 22 April 2025 at St John’s Parish Church Hall . The conference brought together community activists, artists, and organisers from across the region to share learning, build connections, and explore the role of creativity in strengthening resilient, socially connected communities. Feedback highlighted the value of the event as a space for peer learning, collaboration, and mutual support.

In addition, the charity continued to expand The Sonic Museum , an innovative digital platform hosted on SoundCloud , dedicated to capturing and sharing the intangible cultural heritage of North East Fife and the East Neuk through sound. The project focuses on heritage as lived experience — including voices, stories, traditions, and local soundscapes — rather than solely physical landmarks. The Sonic Museum provides an accessible, growing archive that supports creative expression, intergenerational exchange, and a deeper sense of place.

Together, The Village Creative programme, the Creative Spaces & Communities Conference, and The Sonic Museum formed the three main pillars of the charity’s work during the year. Collectively, they reflect Heids and Herts Scotland’s commitment to advancing the arts, supporting community development, and creating meaningful opportunities for connection, participation, and wellbeing through creativity.

on reserves
Details of any deficit
Donated facilities and services (if any)
The charity aims to maintain reserves at a level that ensures
financial stability and enables it to meet its obligations in the
event of unforeseen circumstances. As an organisation with
no permanent staff or premises, and which operates through
time-limited funded projects, reserves are held primarily to
cover essential core costs and to manage cashflow between
funding periods.

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance
with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the
Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity trustees
consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations
does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section
44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts
examiner’s statement Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the
charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes
consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks
explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken
do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, I do
not express an audit opinion on the viewgiven bythe accounts.
