Structure, governance and management **_** Type of governing document The Charity was formed as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation and approved by OSCR on 29 April 2021 and is governed by constitution. The charity has been established to replace the former charity Melvich Village Hall Association (SC029590). Trustee recruitment and appointment Trustees are appointed in accordance with the terms of the constitution. The minimum number of trustees is five with a maximum of eleven, and no more than one of those trustees may be co-opted on to the board. Members may elect any member to be a trustee at the AGM or they may be appointed by the board. All trustees will retire at each AGM but are eligible for re-election. The trustees are not remunerated for their services. Objectives and activities 2 Charitable purposes The purpose of the charity is to provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation and other leisure-time occupation in the interests of the social welfare in an effort to improve the conditions of life of the inhabitants of the district of Bighouse, Melvich, Portskerra, Golval and Kirkton in the parish of Farr. Summary of the main activities Melvich Community SCIO continue to work towards the construction of a in relation to these objects new community hall to replace the old Melvich Village Hall, which was : demolished in 2021. The hail is a much-needed facility in the village to support recreation and other leisure-time activities as well as community resilience provision. This process has been slow due to Covid restrictions followed by an almost complete change to the board due to several board members resigning for personal reasons.

Summary of the main activities in relation to these objects (continued)
There was a iemporary pause in the design and construction of the new hall while the SCIO coordinated the development of a Community Action Pian (CAP) in partnership with the Melvich Community Council. The CAP aimed to validate the community's sentiments about the need for a new hall, this information will benefit the SCIO, especially since they have been without one since November 2021. The CAP process is now nearing completion, and attention has shifted back to the design and construction of the new hall.
We have also been progressing the final stages of acquisition of the old play park site in Poriskerra. While this process continues, the play park sub-committee have been working on the design, new equipment and fundraising.’
The board of trustees has decided to adopt “Melvich and Portskerra Village Hail Committee” as our “known as” title, based on feedback received from community engagement it was noted that the title “Melvich Community SCIO’ did not resonate with the community. A survey was conducied, offering several options, and almost 100% of the responses voted in favour of this change. This change has been confirmed as acceptable by OSCR.
Throughout this year we have held a variety of events to raise funds and awareness of the SCIO within the community. The playpark sub-committee organised a funday held on the local football pitch. They also had a craft table at the harvest fayre. Both these events were financially successful and raised awareness of the playpark project. Board members also had a table at the harvest fayre promoting the SCIO and the 100 club.
This event gave us the opportunity fo talk to community members about ihe work of the SCIO and to sign up new members to the 100 club which is our main fund raising strearn.
The playpark sub-commitiee raised a significant amount of money towards the playpark project by taking part in a Tesco bag fill day. Local school children and their parents spent a day in Thurso Tesco helping customers pack their bags at ihe checkouts. The children enjoyed the day and raised over £700 on the day.
An exceedingly kind, generous member of the community held a garage sale in the summer, donating ali proceeds to the playpark fund raiser. Over £1500 was raised for the playpark fund.
Local children carved pumpkins for Halloween and decorated the community garden with them.
The traditional Chrisimas lights event was held at the beginning of December.
Miulled Wine, teas, coffees, and light refreshments were provided through a micro grant from Melvich Community Council and the local choir came fo sing traditional Christmas carols for the event.

Summary of the main achievements The CAP project, in collaboration with the Melvich Community Council, is
of the charity during the financial nearing completion. Local Energy Scotland is in the final stages of
period issuing the final funding for the project, and we are confident that this will
be finalised in the next few weeks.

The asset transfer of the land for the playpark from Highland Council to the SCIO is now complete. There were some delays to this process with the solicitor, but settlement took place in mid-April 2025. This will allow the playpark committee to apply for other funding streams now we own the land.
Grant funding applications have been submitted for the Portskerra playpark project. We have received £25000 from SSE Renewables to purchase equipment for the playpark, and we are awaiting confirmation of further match funding applications.
In response fo community feedback, a survey regarding a revised design brief for the new hall, was delivered by hand to all households in the Melvich Community Council area. Although the response was not as high as we had hoped, approximately 30% of the community participated. The resutts of the survey have led to renewed meetings with the Highland Council architects and subsequent revisions fo the original design. This process is ongoing.
A dedicated group of volunteers continue to maintain the community garden. We organized two garden clean-up events throughout the year, and community members also participate in maintaining the space beiween these events by helping with planting, caring for the planters, and grass culling. This garden is a popular area for both residents and visitors, thanks fo its location next to the local business Coasiline Coffee and its beautiful views of the sea.

The 100-club raised £2610 during the 24/25 season, £1466 was given out in prizes raising £1144 for ihe SCIO unrestricted funds. This money will go towards Melvich and Poriskerra Village Halls regular financial commitmenis such as insurance, licenses and IT provision.

Membership of the charity has risen by two and currently stands at 49 members.
We would like to thank cur community, our grant funders and all our diligent volunteers for helping us through this challenging third fiscal year of Melvich Community SCIO.
