## Governance and Management
The business of the UMOJA WA MAISHA YETU (UMAY) is directed by a management committee comprising between 3 and 5 members, appointed by the members at the Annual General Meeting to serve for one year, all being eligible for re-election. The committee meets not less than 4 times a year.
A chairperson, secretary and treasurer are appointed by the management committee; no person may hold any office for more than 3 years. The management committee may co-opt up to 3 further members, where deemed necessary, to serve until the following AGM.

## Charitable purposes
## The organisation's purposes are:
4 The organisation's Purposes are for the public benefit of people living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and Congolese Community living in United Kingdom including the wide community and other ethnic minority living in the UK to undertake activities which support the prevention or relief of poverty especially hunger and undernourishment, the advancement of health, education, human rights, community development, the promotion of equality and diversity. This will include but is not limited to:
4.1 Fight against the discrimination and the stigmatization of people with mental or physical disabilities.
4.2 To promote British values and British culture awareness to Congolese Community living in United Kingdom and Maintain strong relations and exchange our integration in the British society.
4.3 To promote talents of Congolese community living in United Kingdom and Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), such as women, young people and children by offering them support on some activities such as Music, Sports, events Media, Theatre, Poem, Giving assistance in community problems (funeral, burial, according to Congolese culture
4.4 Improving children and adults’ access to education including creating schools and training structures for the good of the community with access to water and sanitation. Provide moral and technical support to schools including training for teachers.
4.5 Working to promote gender equality and the good health of women and children including fighting against early marriage, induced and clandestine abortions as well as unwanted pregnancies.

## Activities and Achievements
## Corra Foundation — £1,100
Umoja wa Maisha Yetu (UMAY) received £1,100 from the Corra Foundation to deliver a Family Fun Day during the school holidays. The funding supported venue hire, travel costs, food, and inclusive activities for children and families. The event helped reduce isolation, improve wellbeing, and strengthen community connections, particularly for families experiencing financial hardship.
## The Robertson Trust — £2,500
UMAY received £2,500 from The Robertson Trust to deliver financial skills workshops for families. The sessions covered budgeting, saving, and debt management, alongside cultural awareness and language support to overcome communication barriers. Funding supported venue hire, travel expenses, and refreshments. The project improved financial confidence, wellbeing, and families’ ability to make informed financial decisions, helping to reduce poverty.
## Aberlour Children’s Urgent Assistance Fund — £250
The charity received £250 from Aberlour Children’s Urgent Assistance Fund. UMAY supported families with children aged 21 and under who were experiencing extreme hardship, including difficulties accessing food, heating, and clothing. UMAY acted as a sponsoring organisation by supporting applications and distributing funds once approved, ensuring families received timely and essential support.
