OBJECTIVES & ACTIVITIES
The aim of The School Support Committee is to:
-
Work in partnership with the school to. create a welcoming school which is inclusive to all parents operating within the ethos of a Catholic school.
-
To promote a partnership between the school, its pupils and all its parents. 3. To develop and engage in activities which support the education and welfare of the pupils. 4. To identify and represent the views of parents on the education provided bylthe school and other matter affecting the education and welfare of the pupils.
ACHIEVEMENTS & PERFORMANCE
The School Support Committee have undertaken several proactive fundraising initiatives during this accounting period which includes a raffle and a summer fair to end the school year. Other income raised came from Edinburgh Council to support the purchase of stationary and to cover ‘hall lets’ to use the school for out-of-hours events.
The School Support Committee have been delighted to support St. Catherine’s school with a donation to support the primary 7 residential camp, which enabled the class to experience activities and allowed the children to learn, develop and grow individually, as well as a class.
Primary 7 also received a donation towards their leaver’s dance to help with decoration of[the][hall][and] food.
The School Support Committee also had a ‘clean-up day’ in the playground, involving families and the local community, helping to keep the grounds neat and ultimately saving the school money. Where possible, we always harness help and skills from the local community to make optimum use of our funds.
The School Support Committee supported the school with resources for breakfast club — an important resource to allow our families to work and children to receive a meal before school. The School Support Committee also made a contribution to the panto, allowing children access to the arts and a fitting celebration and treat for every class in the school in the run up to Christmas. Outdoor play is crucial to the development of our pupils and we prioritised purchasing playground bark to provide a safe outdoor environment to encourage play.
Our annual Twink! subscription is an expense covered by the Parent Council. Twinkl is a key resource for our teachers, with ready made worksheets covering a wealth of topics. This is used in every class from nursery to P7 and is a resource valued by staff, pupils and families.
Other expenditure covered Apple pencils for compulsory iPads, allowing children to mare accurately develop fine motor skills in their written work online. Maths resources were also prioritised — this being a key part of the curriculum. Our experienced staff team advise that specific maths resources encourage learning in numeracy.
