'the advancement of religion','the advancement of health','the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage'

Caithness Street Pastors is set up to provide a supportive presence when people are leaving pubs and/or events. This mainly occurs in the evenings on the streets of Wick and Thurso in Caithness. The Street Pastors purpose is to help people who maybe struggling with to get home safely, who may need proper footwear by providing more appropriate footwear and to give a listening ear to those who would like to talk. The work is co-ordinated with local police, pub staff and bouncers who may call on us when our presence can be seen to help with a need. We have two teams of 4 volunteers who go out once a month once in Wick and once in Thurso. These volunteers have gone through training that enables them to assess the best way to interact safely in difficult/hostile situations that they may encounter with the intent of defusing tense situations. The presence of an non threatening/ non authoritarian friendly faces is often enough to change the atmosphere.
