Review of Year 2024-2025

In April 2024 saw the return of our Easter fun days that was funded partly by Falkirk Council School holiday grant, this was to help for the cost of food, we provided bouncy castles and other activities proving a great success for free, Millions like us scooter club delivered for free 200 Easter eggs that the children received on the fun days. The local businesses and the community also donated towards our Easter events.

We actively fundraised throughout the year by hosting events, competitions and raffles, all proceeds raised went towards our Food bank supplies, Free Term Time Fun days, pantomimes and towards our warm space Happy Mondays which provides essential support to communities’ health and wellbeing through food, companionship and entertainment.

Sourcing funding and fundraising events are essential to our Charity as this helps towards our ongoing running costs such as rent, electricity, insurances etc.

Our Summer Fun Days were again a great success especially in the fact we decided not to apply for funding for these as an anonymous donation put us in good stead to host these without additional funds. This was fantastic to be able to do this as it meant our volunteers could immediately book attractions for the children who attend and not have the worry of funding being paid in on time for which we are eternally grateful.

After a successful application to Falkirk Council Community Choices, we got through to the public vote and were happy to report we won in our Ward. Thanks to this it meant we were lucky enough to be able to purchase a community mini-bus which has proved to be a great asset to us and many more with it being well used in our area between local schools, groups, charities and helping us transport families to our fun days who have limited access to public transport.

We faced many challenges this year, our biggest of which was deciding to move premises due to our current one being unfit for purpose after discovering white mould. A decision was made to move into a vacant space in Bonnybridge Community Education Centre as they began their journey into community ownership meaning the foodbank would now be central and in the heart of Bonnybridge. This has been a positive move for ROOTS as it has highlighted the work we do within our community and gained us extra support. Lots of local organisations, schools, businesses, our local councillors etc have been pivotal in their support to our foodbank during the festive period, helping us provide all important donations to our free mobile Santa's grotto, pensioners Christmas lunch, Happy Mondays Christmas lunch and x-mas dinner food parcels.

In summary, although the team of volunteers faced a few challenges this year, we are happy to report we overcame the obstacles and had another successful year supporting those facing food insecurity, loneliness, isolation and have promoted health & wellbeing, community engagement and inclusion through various factors such as providing transport to those who would normally miss out on fun days without this.
