## **Trustees’ Annual Report**
The Trustees have pleasure in presenting their report together with the financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2024.

## **Trustees as at 31 December 2024**
## **Objectives: Charitable Purposes**
The Association’s purposes as set out in Clause 4 of our Constitution, are the advancement of the arts, heritage, culture and science through:
- Study of the Jacobite period of history;
- Recording and preserving the memory of those who actively participated in, or who had connections with the ‘45 Jacobite Rising;
- Marking appropriate sites; and
- Endeavouring to safeguard the Jacobite heritage.
## **Governance and Management**
The Association’s governance and management are determined by the terms of its constitution, publicly available under the tab ‘Constitution’ at: https://www.1745association.org.uk/
Its governing body is a Board of Trustees elected by the Members of the Association at the Annual General Meeting. The Board comprises a maximum of 12 (twelve) Trustees, comprising a Chair and two Vice Chairs who are directly elected to their posts, and up to nine other Trustees, with three Trustees elected at each AGM for a three-year term, renewable once, so that an individual Trustee

may serve for a maximum of six years continuously. The Chair, in consultation with the Trustees, will appoint officers to carry out the Association’s day-to-day functions, including a Secretary and a Treasurer.
## **Reserves**
The Bank Balance on 31 December 2024 was £17,826 (2023 £15,402), an increase of £2,424 on the previous year. The Association operated above the £5,000 minimum balance approved by the Board in 2021.
## **Achievements and Performance during 2024**
- During 2024 the following events were attended by members of the Association:
- The Culloden Commemoration was held on Saturday 13 April and was the first time that the Association’s flag was carried on the moor proving to be a rallying point for the members attending the event. The Association’s wreath was laid at the Cairn by Following the service, several members attended the Clan Donald Lunch held in the Drummossie Hotel, Inverness.
- St Georges Gardens in London, was the venue for the commemoration and Wreath laying for the Kennington Martyrs, Jacobite officers executed for their participation in the Rising.
- 21 October 2024: The Capon Tree at Brampton in Cumbria commemorates the site where six men, all part of Prince Charles Edward Stuart’s army, were executed in October 1746. A wreath was laid on behalf of The 1745.
- 27 October 2024: An Episcopalian Mass was held in St Ninian’s Cathedral, Perth, to remember the Reverend Robert Lyon who was the chaplain to the Forfarshire Ogivy’s Regiment. He never bore arms but was betrayed and was hung, drawn and quartered.
- 18 December 2024: The skirmish at Clifton Moor took place on 18 December 1745 between the government and Jacobite armies. This commemorative event was attended by several members of the Association along with members of the 1715 and a party of school children and their teachers from the local primary school. This was to add to their project on Local History and it is hoped that this will be a regular occurrence.
During the year our Cairns, Memorials and Plaques have been kept in good order and regularly inspected.
As an amateur society, the people who give their time, energy, historical knowledge and technical assistance, do so solely for their interest in the subject rather than financial reward. At the annual Gathering and other events, we enjoy each other’s company and friendship. Long may this continue.

## **1. Basis of accounting**
These accounts have been prepared on the Receipts and Payments basis in accordance with the Charities & Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended).
## **2. Nature and purpose of funds**
Unrestricted funds are those that may be used at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the objects of the charity. The trustees maintain a single unrestricted fund for the day-to-day running of the Association.
Restricted funds may only be used for specific purposes. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for specific purposes. The Gathering accounts are also regarded as separate from the general accounts and therefore classified as “restricted”.
## **3. Related party transactions**
The Association's insurance policy includes Trustees Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance for all its trustees. No remuneration was paid to the Trustees or any connected persons during the year.

## **5. Governance costs**
Governance costs of £366 (2023: £245) were incurred and included Zoom subscription £159 and insurance £129.
## **6. Independent examiner's fee**
No fees were incurred in 2023 or 2024 in respect of the independent examination of the accounts.
## **7. Fixed Assets**
A painting was donated to the Association in 1960. It is currently on loan where it is on public display. The valuation of £9,000 is based on an insurance valuation.
The Association Library located in the A K Bell Library in Perth contains in excess of 300 books and publications on Jacobite history. A valuation of £4,000 has been determined based on estimated replacement cost.

terms of the Charities and TnJstee Investment (Scotlandl Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts
(Scotlandl Regulations 2006 las amendedl. The charty tnjsts consider that the audit requirement
of Reglslation Iolllldl of the 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to
examine the accounts as fequired under settion 44llllcl o* the Act and to state whether particular
matte15 have come to my attention.

My examination 15 carrEd out in accordance with Aegulation I l of the 2006 Accounts Regulations.
An ex2mination includes a review Df the accounting records kept by thc charity and a comparison of
theaccounts presented with those records. It also includes consKleration of any unusual Items or
diselosures in the accounts and seks explanations from the trustees conceming any such matters.
The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and
consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
